  1. GSHS- FootballThe Program DO IT TOGETHER! DOMINATE IT TOGETHER! DESERVE IT TOGETHER!

  2. GSHSFOOTBALL “This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am Exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be a gain, not loss. Good, not evil. Success, not failure, in order that I shall not forget the price I paid for it.”

  3. THE CHALLENGE SUCCESS IS UNCOMMON, not to be enjoyed by the common man. WE ARE LOOKING FOR UNCOMMON PEOPLE. WE MUST REDIFINE WHATS POSSIBLE FOR US AS A TEAM!! ELIMINATE THE IMPOSSIBLES!!!

  4. FOOTBALL Is a series of collisions with tests of strength, skill, and will, big guys clearing the way for fast guys, with countless contests of individual courage and toughness, until one side collectively wears down physically or surrenders mentally.

  5. OUR PHILOSOPHY • 1. BE COMMITTED TO A HIGH LEVEL • PLAY PHYSICAL • DOMINATE (LEAVE NO DOUBT) • PLAY FAST/ (WITH UNMATCHABLE TEMPO) • ACADEMICS • 2. SELF-IMPROVEMENT (As an individual) • ATTITUDE: WIN EACH PLAY • FOCUS & COMMIT TO THE PROCESS (Every Quality of the Crest “GSHS”) • 3. DO YOUR JOB (Responsibility) • OWNERSHIP- DON’T POINT FINGERS • TRUST IN YOUR TEAMMATES/ CARE FOR YOUR TEAMMATES/ LOVE YOUR TEAMMATES • WHO HAS YOUR BACK • 4. KNOW YOUR ROLE (Do what you do Best) • WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP US WIN? (NOTHING TO DO WITH # OF PLAYS) • PICK UP THE PIECES/ DO WHAT IS WITHIN YOUR POWER TO MAKE IT RIGHT • WE MUST ONLY FOCUS ON THE THINGS THAT WE CAN CONTROL • MAKE PLAYS

  19. COMMUNICATION “It is the province of knowledge to speak, and it is the privilege of wisdom to listen.” - Oliver Wendell Holmes • Listen – Truly get to know kids and staff • Make a decision I feel is right per the feedback and input from assistants. • Make sure all parties understand the defined description and task at hand, e.g. ask kids to repeat instructions. • What I said • What I think I said • What he heard me say “Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see”

  20. TRUST AND RESPECT “The mark of a man is how he treats people that can never do anything for him.” Darrell Royal • Janitors, trainers, managers and walk ons are as important to our family and team goals as our stars. Our bench’s attitude has won a bunch of games. • You completely control your integrity, your honesty and your attitude. Always do what you know to be right. • Always treat people the way we want our family to be treated. • If you can’t say something positive about someone, don’t say anything. • Embrace cultural diversity (socioeconomic, race and education) • Thanksgiving Day • Tell life stories • Dedication game • No depth chart or starting lineup.

  21. LEADERSHIP Leadership is not an option; it is essential, essential for motivation and direction. Essential for evaluation and accomplishment. It is the one ingredient essential for the success of any program on any level; from sandlot to the NFL. Take away leadership and it isn’t long before confusion replaces vision.

  22. MANY WAYS TO LEAD “Leadership is the ability to get a person to do what you want him to do, when you want it done, in a way you want it done because he wants to do it!” • Dwight D. Eisenhower “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Leadership is poise under pressure.” • President John F. Kennedy “Pressure is something you feel when you don’t know what you are doing.” • Joe Namath “There is no such thing as failure; Only giving up too soon.” - Unknown

  23. LEADERSHIP NOTES • Jon Gordon Leadership Training Notes • Choose faith over fear. • Focus on the “get to” versus “have to.” • Too blessed to be stressed. • Invite the other guys on the bus. • Empower the passengers on your bus. • As a leader, take time to communicate. • Love your passengers. • Drive with purpose!

  24. HOW WE BECOME WINNERS The Cohesiveness of the staff and the ability of a team to pull together as one will determine how your team does In the long run.

  25. ALWAYS PLAY TO WIN (Find the Game in Practice- It is ALL about EXPECTATIONS & OWNERSHIP) GAME PHILOSOPHY Play Fast with Great Energy & Great Passion Dominate your Opponent Have Fun (Together) Do the Little Things Right 4 to 6 Seconds Believe in the Plan & Each Other It’s all about the Ball, they got it GET IT, if we got it KEEP IT. 5 Things that make the Difference for us in a Game Win the Contact Battle (Be Physical) No Turnovers/ Get Takeaways No Stupid Penalties 4 to 5 plays that will make the difference in the game (Must be US) Be Sound in the Kicking Game WHEN IT’S OVER, WE ASK ONE QUESTION: DO WE DESERVE IT?

  26. PRACTICE WINNING EVERYDAY As Coaches and as parents, we can only teach our kids that life is a series of options, just like football. If you make good decisions, you are likely to succeed. Once a decision has been made, don’t look back. It is our job to make the decision work. Don’t second guess!

  27. Four Areas of Excellence: 1/4 • SPIRITUALITY : Never Give Up • Strive for excellence • Positive Attitude • Commitment • Solid Character • Belief in Self and Teammates

  28. Four Areas of Excellence: 2/4 • PHYSICALITY : Prepare your body for battle • Willingness to hit and be physical • Explosive Power • Endurance • Speed • Agility

  29. Four Areas of Excellence: 3/4 • MENTAL – Never lose the mental battle. We are 100% in control of the mental aspect of the game. • Execution • Knowledge • Preparation • Confidence • Communication

  30. Four Areas of Excellence: 4/4 • EMOTIONAL – The difference in many games is the team that is ready to play and perform to the maximum. • We must commit 100% hustle on each play, and take one play at a time. • Intensity • Desire • Effort • Pride • Enthusiasm

  31. TOUGH ROAD AHEAD • 40 % of all girls will become pregnant by the age of 19 • 750,000 teens become pregnant each year. • 1 million teenagers run away from home every year

  32. TOUGH ROAD AHEAD • 6,000 teenagers become alcoholics everyday. • 3 million teens who are “problem drinkers” • 13 teenagers commit suicide everyday • 1 million teens attempt suicide every year

  33. The Gazelle and The Lion Every morning the African gazelle wakes up. He must outrun the fastest lion or be killed… Every morning the lion wakes up. He must outrun the slowest gazelle or starve to death… It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be running. It doesn’t matter who our opponent is on the field or off, or how good they are or how big they are, or how athletic they are; we will outwork them. That is our passion, our purpose, our planning, and our preparation.

  34. II TIMOTHY 4:2 Paul’s charge to Timothy “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction.”
