Defining “Chemical Calories” Metabolic Modifiers & Disruptors • Toxic chemicals that damage the metabolic processes of the body which handle, absorb, and create proteins. • These chemicals also increase the rate at which proteins are eliminated from the body. • Therefore, our bodies become incapable of metabolizing and eliminating the proteins needed to allow our body’s “natural slimming system” to fully function.

Chemical Calories vs Traditional Calories Traditional – units of energy (the more energy food produces the more calories it contains and the more the body can naturally burn it off as fuel) Chemical – the degree of damage caused to the body’s natural slimming system or the fattening ability of the chemicals contained in foods.

Most Common Sources of Chemical Calories – Chemicals That INCREASE Levels of Fattening Hormones • Toxic heavy metals in polluted fish, vaccines, dental work • Artificial or synthetic chemicals in plastics, pesticides, solvents • Growth hormones, antibiotics and steroids in meat, poultry and dairy products • Food additives, preservatives and colorings • Environmental pollution • Packaging materials leaching into foods • Artificial sweeteners • Common contamination in food sources

Sources of Chemical Calories continued… Toxic heavy metals – • mercury (fish and dental work) • aluminum (cans, antacids, cookware, foil, antiperspirants, carbonated sodas, baking powder, contaminated water) • Lead (paint, water pipes, cigarette smoke, canned goods (solder), pottery, air pollution, insecticides, lipstick and other cosmetics, contaminated food and water) • Cadmium (auto exhaust, food containers, pesticides, medications, instant coffee and tea, batteries, processed grains, plastics, polluted water) • Other heavy metals (arsenic, nickel and copper)

Sources of Chemical Calories continued… • Pesticides • Halogen compounds (disinfectants, gasoline, medicine, fire retardant chemicals (bedding, outdoor clothing, mattresses, etc), wood preservatives (playground equipment, fencing, decking etc.) • Organo-phosphates, pet flea treatments, household pesticide sprays, stabilizers in car fluids, flame retardants, medicines for lice, crabs, nits, and Alzheimer’s disease (neuro-toxin) • Carbamates – anti-microbials, cigars and cigarettes, moth balls, pet flea treatments, synthetic rubber

Sources of Chemical Calories continued… Food additives – • Propyl gallate – preservative found in anything fatty or oily…most serious side-effect link is to cancer • BHA/BHT – preservatives, in anything fatty or oily (chewing gum, potato chips)…cancer in rats • Potassium Bromate – increases volume and creates a finer crumb structure in breads and rolls. In CA they require a cancer warning. Banned everywhere except U.S. and Japan.

  12. Food Additives continued…In my experience, the most deadly of ALL! • MSG – flavor enhancer. In packaged and processed foods. Cardiac death, neuron damage, headaches, nausea, vomiting, generalized or localized inflammation, asthma • Aspartame – artificial sweetener. Brain tumors, lymphoma, leukemia in rats, in people headaches, dizziness and hallucinations, brain-fog, menstrual cramps

  13. Food Additives continued… • Acesulfame-K – artificial sweetener 200x stronger than sugar. May cause cancer and affects thyroid in animals. • Olestra – fat substitute used in crackers, snacks and potato chips. It is not absorbed by the body, therefore, causes diarrhea, cramps, flatulence and prevents absorption of some fat-soluble nutrients.

  14. Food Additives continued… • Sodium Nitrate and Nitrites – preservative used in coloring and flavoring of processed meats (lunch meats, ham, smoked meats like hot dogs, sausage etc.). Leads to formation of cancer-causing chemicals called nitrosamines. • Food Coloring Agents – causes brain and thyroid tumors in animals and possibly humans. Known to play a major role as an excito-toxin therefore manifested as ADD/ADHD, brain-fog, lethargy, dizziness and anaphylactic reactions.

Protein’s Role (as an amino acid): • Amino acids form the structure of the most slimming hormones (catecholamines, thyroid, insulin, HGH, steroids, leptin, estrogen and testosterone) • They Speed-up metabolism up to 30% above normal • They facilitate energy production • They builds muscles to burn body fat during exercise and everyday activities NOTE: Chemicals and chemical-calories damage proteins, not only their creation but also their functions as described above.

  17. Consequences of Chemical Calories on Hormones NOTE:When chemical calories damage hormonal functions, your metabolism is automatically affected. Example – too much thyroid hormone can double your metabolic rate resulting in weight loss. A deficiency reduces the metabolic rate by half…causing weight gain.
