  2. Dictatorship • One man or junta - must control the media, education, and a secret police • Has authoritarian rule, sometimes totalitarian rule • The difference between a monarch and dictator - ancestry • Very efficient in making decisions

  3. Democracy • The people have supreme political authority • Policies are determined in mass meetings • Impractical for a large populated country • Inefficient in making quick decisions - requires all the people to compromise on a decision

  4. Republic • Elected officials have political power • Elected officials are held accountable to their constituents • Also referred to as an indirect democracy
