    2. What is the Southern Caste System? The distinguishing of people by social class. The Southern Caste System is the ranking of all people in the South. A social structure in which classes are determined by heredity.

    3. How were peoples lives affected by the Southern Caste System? The way that the lives of people were affected are People werent treated equally. Priests were important since they decided which caste you belonged in Led to the corruption of the priests It was almost impossible to move up a class.

    4. What is the connection between the Southern Caste System and Civil Rights? S.C.S. is the rank you had in society. The people who fought for civil rights wanted equality. S.C.S didnt treat people equally. Civil rights oppose the Southern Caste System.

    5. What role did womens groups play during the civil rights movement? Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Ston, Amelia Bloomer led the civil rights movement With the help, support, hard work, & dedication of women, Dr. King wouldnt have accomplished as much as he did Each women kept her mind open to new possibilities & each cared deeply about people

    6. Southern Belles Southern belle- a modeled young women of the Americans South Antebellum Antebellum- a person who lived through a period of time during a war

    7. Women of the 1930s Poor White Women: Usually marries to a poor white man without much pride. Rich White Women: Always marries to a wealthy man in her caste.

    8. Key Points! The southern caste system was your ranking in society. Anti-miscegenation laws opposed civil rights. People were divided into- rich whites, poor whites, and colored people. During World War 2, women joined the war effort; they volunteered for the Red Cross or the armed forces. During Eleanor Roosevelts move to the White House, she brought a group of women activists and social workers that were put in key positions in the Democratic Party and F.D. Roosevelts New Deal agencies.

    9. Timeline 1664- Maryland was first to pass an anti-miscegenation law 18th-19th Century- more American states pass anti-miscegenation laws 1800s- Men had complete control over women 1843- Massachusetts repealed its anti-miscegenation law

    11. Primary Source! Interviewer: Were you allowed to play with the children of poor whites? Mary Ann: I don't remember playing with what you call poor white children. I do remember two little girls who lived in town whose family had a very tough time. They lived just behind my father's business and I think they resented my better situation. They threatened to beat me up. I was terrified of them.
