  1. Bad Weather in Space and in Sweden Henrik Lundstedt Swedish Institute of Space Physics Lund, Sweden www.lund.irf.se

  2. Solar Activity 6-7 November, 2004 The probability for an Earth-directed CME to be geoeffective is near 100% if the associated HCS is basically parallel to the ecliptic plan

  3. So how did media cover the event in Sweden? I was interviewed by Sydsvenskan about the Nature paper by Solanki et al., about the solar activity the last 11 000 years. I speculated about a Maunder Minimum 2100 but I also said that right we have some activity from AR 696. Next days I was contacted by a representative of a power company and he told me they had measured high GIC values.

  4. November 8, 9 2004 GIC eventin Southern Sweden

  5. Solar wind November 5-11 November, 2004Kiruna, Brorfelde magnetograms 7, 8 and 9 November and GICs

  6. Real-time forecasts of GICevent on November 8 and 9

  7. On November 9 and 10, 2004 we again had halo CMEs, but nothing happened…. The non- centered Halo CMEs of 9 and 10/11 didn’t cause any GICs Forecasts of severe storms 11-12 were delivered by many. Media had articles on possibilities of seeing aurora. But nothing happened…. I was lucky sending my doubts to Swedish Power operators, due the asymmetry of the halo CME and the position of the AR.
