  1. Greenpeace Chelmsford Planning Meet

  2. #ShoppersRevolt 23RD February – Amazing turn out for Greenpeace Chelmsford – 50 Groups took part in total Final phase of the SHOPPERS REVOLT is on the 30th March. I have made a table of the current events/campaigns and asked people to pop their name down at the end of the meet and tick the events they’re interested in attending. I realise life can get in the way but having an idea of numbers really helps the planning phase.

  3. LOCAL MEDIA COORDINATOR • WELCOME Neil to the group, he’ll be taking on the role of Local Media Coordinator and helping to get photos worthy of the newspapers. Neils role will be to get us in the local papers as much as possible. Liaising with the contacts there and creating/amending articles to publicise the group and our campaigns activities to spread the message further and it will also encourage new people to the group. If you join GREENWIRE the volunteers forum you will find him on there Neil Beddoe

  4. Jane’s been busy • As well as helping out with the Instagram account Janes been out helping to recruit new people along to the group and our campaigns. • Jane updated us on the Volunteer Recruiting/Networking event in Kelvedonon the 12th… If any of youwant to do similar events on your area I can arrange getting props to you. Penny has kindly offered to store some props at her house in Chelmsford so it’s easy to collect. I’m going to put a little pack of stuff together soon (I have requested an extra table cloth from HO). • Jane has also put feelers out with reference to us getting a stall at the Kelvedon Festival on the 13thJuly so if you want to get involved in that please let me know. • Social media, there has now been a group set up on GREENWIRE THE GREENPEACE VOLUNTEERS FORUM giving tips and ideas for social media. So Jane will join that.

  5. Social Media • https://greenwire.greenpeace.org/uk/en-gb/groups/social-media-activists This is a new group created on GREENWIRE for people involved with the social media aspects of the group. So Jane and I will hopefully pick up so great tips and ideas. If any of you have any ideas for ontent please wiz them to us on Greenwire. • Yvette has been heavily involved with the group from day 1, absolute star! And even better she’s now picked up the batton with Twitter. Amazing news as twitter is the best way to reach companies and corporations that are doing wrong and so many people use TWITTER rather than Instagram that it will open the door to lots more prtential group memebrs, petition signers and will be a fantastic tool for the group to raise awareness even further. I’m really excited about this so thank you Yvette, I sent the link to the group to you both after the meet. Any questions or stuff you wanna run past me please call or message anytime 

  6. NVDA – Non violet direct action The closing date was the 8thMarch seeing if I can get Kelli and Carmel on the training on the 23rdMarch, if not they’ll apply next time. Having people trained to go out and cause some beneficial havoc in the way Greenpeace is best known for will be such an exciting step for the group, and will give us some even better content for our social media platforms.. It will also be a whole lotta fun for whoever gets involved. You basically get called upon now and then and are sent a brefiing which you can decline or accept mission impossible stylee…It will involve a little travel around the country and may result in getting areested so it’s not for the faint hearted. Greenpeace protect the NVDA campaigners fully, you are fully trained on how not to get arrested, how to deal with it if you do and are given their solicitors number who’ll look after you and get you out of trouble, so long as you obvisuoly don’t assault an officer or somehtning crazy haha, there wont be anything they can do to protect you then!..

  7. THROUGHOUT MARCH • We have now been supplied with questionnaires about CLIMATE CHANGE. There were some errors on the first draft which have now been resolved. There will be a brief version, then some extra questions for people with a little more time and input they’d like to give. We don’t want to hit people while they’re in a rush on the high street so we’ll be hitting Parks, Libraries, Community Centres, Farmers Markets, Friends and Colleagues. • I have public liability doc if you’d like to venture out to community spaces and will send along with questionnaire slips once rec’d. • Who’s up for getting some questionnaires completed? You can go out alone or in small teams throughout March, please take some to your place of work, and hopefully the transition group can help too, I shall contact Edith and Kelli and Carmel are going to liase with her too, thanks ladies  • Yvette has arranged a stall in Chelmsford on the 23rd, so if you can spare a couple of hours please come along. Yvette please relay the full details/meeting point to the group. If anyone has access to a printer with recycled paper that would be really helpful as mine is a bit temperamental but heading out to buy paper today 

  8. #SHOPPERSREVOLT – Final Phase 30th March • Still none the wiser as to what we’ll be doing but will update on the Group WhatsappASAP. Pop your name down at the end if you’re free to help out. I have my first Vintage Fair stall the following morning so we wont be out long.

  9. The Esperanza will be in London - APRIL • There will be open boat days taking place on 13th & 14th April which GP will be recruiting volunteers for and they also hope to have a specific event/tour of the ship for key activists. I’ll circulate information on all of this soon as rec’d.

  10. Community Clean The groups first campaign was a community clean in Leigh on Sea and was really successful and a great way to soend a few hours. We can make the community nicer and advertise our group at the same time, win win. All ages can get involved. CHELMSFORD 27th April ARE YOU FREE?

  11. Colchester Festival – I have enquired about a stall and DRS scheme Pop your name down if you could attend, we could maybe make a weekend of it! I still haven’t heard back from them so Alison could you ask Ren to give them a nudge please if you speak to him, I’ll bell him in the week too. (Ren was at our First Birthday Bash and will be performing at the fesitival).

  12. Global Day of Action for World Oceans Day8th JUNE • Ocean Sanctuaries – Protect the Oceans - In April this year, Greenpeace will launch “Protect the Oceans”, a year-long campaign to secure a strong Global Oceans Treaty at the UN, to protect our global oceans. Our Greenpeace ship the MV Esperanza will be travelling from Pole to Pole, highlighting the wonders of the oceans and the threats they face from overfishing, climate change, plastic pollution and deep sea mining. • Greenpeace UK is leading on the deep sea mining phase of the campaign, which will take place in June/July, so you can expect lots of activity from them around that issue, although we will be involved with other aspects of the campaign as well, including a Global Day of Action on 8th June for World Oceans Day, which handily is a Saturday. • We'll be doing something fun and visual so If you can bring people who don’t have campaigning that’s great, the more the merrier, we want to get as many people involved as possible and make our display a feast for the eyes. So we capture as many people as possible. There will be a petition of course but beyong that I haven’t much of a brefing from HO to relay as this point but I will update you as soon as I hear as there will be a further briefing to follow. • BUT I WOULD LIKE TO ARRANGE A DANCE AND SOMETHING FUN TO REALLY MAKE SOME NOISE IN A POSITIVE WAY AND WE HAVE A PROFESSIONAL SORTING OUT THE CHOREGRAPHY (the lovely Vicci) SO IT SHOULD BE PRETTY DARN COOL. IF YOU WANT TO GET INVOVED IN THE DANCE LET ME KNOW AND I CAN SET UP A WHATSAPP GROUP SO YOU CAN ARRANGE DANCE REHERSALS • Street performers, fancy dress wearers welcome, if you know any please give them my details. • As usual It's a family friendly campaign so kids are welcome :) • Even if you can swing past to help set up that‘d be great. But if you can stay for the full event you'll have a fun time whilst getting involved in a Global Event to raise awareness so this really will reach a whole lot of people.

  13. If you wasn’t at the meet please let me know if you’re available for the final phase of the #ShoppersRevolt on the 30thMarch, the Community Clean on the 27th April and/or World Oceans Day on the 8thJune… Thanks 

  14. We spoke about organising a quiz at Februarys meet…. I have decided a COMMUNITY CLEAN should take priority over the quiz night as it fits with the SHOPPERS REVOLT campaigning and it also means we can do something good for the community whilst advertising the group. But a quiz night would be great, so if you want to take the lead on this let me know, if not I’ll shelve it temporarily….

  15. FESTIVAL RECRUITMENT – GREENPEACE HO – DRS SCHEME Festival recruitment Applications for volunteering and Geronimo, Download, Glastonbury, Latitude, WOMAD and Camp Bestival will open in the next two weeks and will be promoted on Greenwire. They have not yet finalised their attendance to manage DRS schemes at a range of other festivals, but you can find the DRS group on Greenwire – and I’ll try to update if those opportunities arise.

  16. Greenpeace Code of Conduct for Volunteers and Activists • Respect – We must show respect for the environment, for each other, for Greenpeace values and for the safety and security of each other. This includes valuing each other’s time, privacy, opinions and personal space. Individuals must take personal responsibility for their actions in their Greenpeace role. • Environment – Protecting the environment is why we’re here – we must lead by example. This involves avoiding waste (including food waste), using ethical products, minimal use of fossil fuels, leaving no trace, not littering, recycling, reusing. • Safe – Every member should feel part of the team and should feel safe in the Greenpeace environment, both in terms of safe working and not feeling intimidated, bullied, victimised, sexually pressured or harassed – whether through word or action. This means not being under the influence of drugs or alcohol when representing Greenpeace. • Peace – Greenpeace members should demonstrate a positive non-violent, non-aggressive attitude. There is no place for anger or violence in Greenpeace. Non-violence is a core Greenpeace value. Temporary conflicts must be dealt with calmly and quickly. • Equality – Every team member should feel included and must not be discriminated against due to  age, disability, gender, relationship status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation or form of  employment. • Care – Being part of Greenpeace means ensuring the well-being of others. This means taking care of each other, supporting each other, being honest with each other and being open to others’ needs. It also means taking care of Greenpeace property, finances, images and messages. • Trust – Greenpeace members should be able to trust one another. They can also trust direction they receive from Greenpeace UK to provide relevant, timely and appropriate support, resourcing and training. RESPECT Code of conduct – This has just been released to groups and we’ve been asked to circulate it to current and future members. I wont runt through it now, it’s common sense stuff. But will share on the Whatsapp Group

  17. It’s not so new anymore but follow for some really interesting articles and investigations about the environment.

  18. It looks really naff if we have no or low numbers saying they’re attending events. I get people don’t like people knowing their whereabouts and clicking GOING can be a commitment. But if you can click INTERESTED it will encourage new people to do the same… and hopefully come along. I hope you can help with this 

  19. ECO BRICKS DEMO – Obviously our main aim is stopping companies and consumers from using plastic, but we need to find something useful to do with the non-recyclable plastic that’s already here. Kelli and Carmel came along to give a demonstration on how to pack the bottles and a little info on ECO bricks. They run regular workshops on it at the Safe Space Studio (advertised on FACEBOOK, workshops are usually 5pm to 7pm so follow or check out their page for the next event details).. They will be using the bricks for a local community project, details still being decided but they relayed some fantastic ideas at the meet, really exciting stuff, love your energy and passion ladies! Thanks for doing the demo. IF YOU CAN ALL HELP THEM OUT AND BRING ANY NON RECYCLABLE PLASTICS TO THE NEXT MEET THEY CAN SWING PAST AND COLLECT THEM.

  20. HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AT THE NEXT MEET Kerry  07341289906
