  3. History: Past & Present (1) • Missouri State University was founded in Springfield in 1905 as the Fourth District Normal School. During its early years, the institution's primary purpose was the preparation of teachers for the public school systems in the southwest region of Missouri. The first name change came in 1919 when the school became Southwest Missouri State Teachers College, reflecting its regional mission. 

  4. History: Past & Present (2) • In 2005, the University's name changed to Missouri State University. This final name change reflected the changing nature of the institution, as evidenced by increased enrollment, admissions standards, graduation rates, graduate programs and freshman success.

  5. Getting to Know Your Residence: Sunvilla Tower Missouri State University Usually arranges an apartment for exchange faculty from QDU in Sunvilla tower, a high-rise Building on campus.

Upon Arrival: Step 1Going to the office of Equity & Diversity Once you arrive at MSU, Visit the office of Equity and Diversity, where you fill in the application form for social security number And you are assigned a 900 number, with which you can enter your personal data to different offices.

  7. Upon Arrival: Step 2 Go to Plaster Students Union building, where You can go to Zip Card Office for obtaining a zip Card and Pin number.

  8. Upon Arrival: Step 3 Go to administration Building (Carrington Hall) where you find the office of payroll, human resources, insurance and office of Research & Development. HR Staff and Payroll will enter your data

  9. Upon Arrival: Step 4 • Bring your Zip Card and Pin and go to the Computer lab to set up your bearmail.

  10. Job-Related Information What are the exchange faculty expected to teach? 1. Chinese Language (Beginning, Intermediate Level). Textbook is available. 2. LLT 215(Asian Culture Studies), no textbook. 3. Workshop( Special topics on China), Once a month or more frequently, open to students, faculty and staff.   11. Library • Meyer Library is open Every day from Monday to Sunday, where you can read, research or print. The next picture features the library building.

  12. Wellness Center There are quite a few sports and wellness centers where you can go for physical fitness programs

  13. Going Shopping Going to Shopping is not as convenient as that in Qingdao if you don’t drive a car, but local church van takes internationals to War-Mart every Friday evening around 6 pm, or your friends may give you a ride.
