  1. Year 2 General Information Year 2 Spring Curriculum Information WELCOME BACK! Welcome back to school - I hope you had a lovely Christmas holiday! This year there is lots of enjoyable learning opportunities to look forward to but if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, please come and let us know. Mrs Sefton and Mrs McCulloch. Reading folders need to be in school every day. Exploring Europe PE lessons are on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child has a labelled PE kit in school. Breakfast Club Breakfast Club is open every morning from 8:00 until 8:45. Homework Homework and spellings will be sent home on Monday and need to be returned on Thursday. • Helpful Home Activities • Help your child improve their reading by spending ten minutes reading and talking about books together each night. Also every Thursday the children will be tested on their times table, please spend time with your child to help them move up the time table rainbow. • You could research the topic this half term by looking at information about the different countries in Europe, also show your child a map of Europe so they can see where each country is.

  2. Literacy This term the children’s literacy lessons will link very closely with Geography. The children will be writing recounts about the different countries and places that Olly the Owl has been to, having to describe these places using lots of adjectives. Also the children will be exploring extended stories from different European authors. This will develop their knowledge of how to improve their story writing as well as reading books from around the world. French In French this term your child will learn the different colour names. This will help them discuss their favourite colours as well as describe the different colours in the European flags. Exploring Europe Art/DT In art and design the children will learn all about different buildings around Europe. They will use different techniques, such as printing to bring these building to life. Religious Education Books will be our first topic this term. As part of this, we will learn about the different books used at home and in school and also the books used in church on Sunday. This will give the children the opportunity to explore different scriptures in the Bible. In our Collective Worship, children will be choosing and leading their own sessions. Numeracy Developing our ability to problem solve, interpreting data and properties of shape will be the focus this term. The children will also be building up their mental methods, learning how to add, subtract and multiply numbers in their head. This will build a good foundation for skills they will need throughout the rest of the school. Geography This term the children will explore the different countries in Europe. They will start off in England, then travel to France, Germany and many more. This will allow the child to understand how different countries look like and how they compare to our own country. . Physical Education This term the children will be working on building up their basic game skills. They will learn how to travel, send and receive a ball in different ways. Build on their balance and how this is effective when playing sport. Science Materials and their properties will be the focus this spring term. The children will use their senses to explore different materials, be able to sort them in to different groups and also how the shape of some materials can be changed. Social and Emotional During circle time and PSHE lessons, we will be looking at ‘Going for Goal’s. Children will begin the understand why we set goals and why it is important to stick to these goals. Children will set their own classroom goals.
