  2. Major Characters • John Proctor- Main character who was falsely accused of witchcraft and died to protect his name. • Elizabeth Proctor- Wife of John Proctor. Was sent to jail by Abigail and wanted Proctor to admit to witchcraft in order to stay alive. • Abigail Williams- The leader of the young girls who initially practiced witchcraft and began accusations around town. Had affair with John Proctor. • Mary Warren- Housekeeper at the Proctor house. Weak link of the group who caves into peer pressure.

  3. Key Themes • Defending ones values may save ones reputation but may also cost one their life. • Naming someone else's name in order to protect ones self will cause hysteria in a society.

  4. What role does facing obstacles have in shaping an individual’s identity? • Obstacles can test your values in life and make you choose between your reputation and what you know is right. • Facing an obstacle can bring out your inner beast or make you realize the strength you have to rise above it. • In life, when facing an obstacle your decision to do what is right may cost you your family or even your life.
