8. What is the IB Diploma Programme (DP)? Challenging 2-year curriculum
Aimed at students aged 16-19
Leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading colleges and universities
Prepares students for success in college and life by encouraging them to:
Ask challenging questions
Learn how to learn
Develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
Develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures

11. In Each Subject Area, Students Must Complete: 2 years of IB coursework
Internal Assessments (IAs)
External Assessments (EAs) in May of their senior year
12. Core of IB DP Each IB Candidate must also:
Complete an Extended Essay (EE) – an independently researched and written paper of about 4,000 words
Take 2 semesters of coursework in Theory of Knowledge (ToK) – interdisciplinary course that provides coherence by exploring the nature of knowledge across disciplines, encouraging an appreciation of other perspectives
Complete 150 hours (minimum) of Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) activities – encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits, sports, community service work; appreciation of life beyond the academic arena
13. Obtaining the IB Diploma IB assessments (IAs, EAs) are scored on a 1-7 scale
6 subjects times 7 possible points results in a total possible assessment score of 42 points
Students can earn up to 3 additional points for exemplary work on EE and ToK
Altogether, 42 points plus 3 additional points equal a grand total of 45 points that could potentially be earned
24 points minimum are required to earn the International Baccalaureate Diploma without any failing conditions

Why would a student want to be an International Baccalaureate Diploma recipient?
15. It Allows You to “Pay the Price” in High School IB courses allow students to engage in college level work with the support systems that the High School can provide:
Teachers are available to provide after school tutoring
Students are in an environment in which they feel comfortable/familiar
Counselors, DP Coordinator, Administrators, and peers are available to guide and support students
16. It Will Prepare You for College & Beyond IB courses are college level courses
Extended Essay (EE) is a college level, independent research paper
External Assessments (EAs)
IB students will already be prepared to manage their time
Exposure to international mindedness within the curriculum allows students to broaden their perspectives and understanding of not only themselves and their own culture, but those of others in the world

Students expected to do more work and more rigorous work than other courses
