What is 1clas·sic 1clas·sic - adjective \ˈkla-sik\ —used to say that something has come to be considered one of the best of its kind —used to say that something is an example of excellence —used to describe something that has been popular for a long time • Can you think of any classic authors?

  4. Culminating Task #2 • You will researchtwo authors, one classic and one contemporary. • You will create a multimedia presentation (PowerPoint, prezi, video, etc.) to deliver your information. • Your PowerPoint must include all of the information collected for this task. • Print the assignment from my wiki page by Friday, 1/10/14.

  5. Context: • During this task, you will research and analyze cultural elements such as language, writing styles, customs, beliefs, environment and social/ political influences. • In studying culture through literature, determinations can be made about classic literature that transcends time and what contemporary literature has the potential to impact future generations.

  6. Task: • Choose at least one selection from one contemporary author and at least one selection from a classic author. • Analyze the features and style of your chosen authors’ texts. • Create a multimedia product to present to the class.

  7. Product: • Develop a multimedia presentation in which you: • Explain the features, themes, styles of writing for the classic author that depicts why it would be considered to have longevity. • Explain the features, themes, styles of writing for the contemporary author that depicts why it has potential to have longevity. • Required elements for both authors: • Background (experiences, beliefs, culture) • Social, environmental, and political climate during which they developed their work. • Descriptions and examples of each author’s writing style. • Discuss how the “classic” author’s work impacts current readers and provides insight into the culture of his/ her day. • Discuss how the “contemporary” author’s work may impact future readers and provide insight for future generations.

  8. Grading • IB rubrics A, B, and C will be used to score your final product. • Presentation ofyourproject to the classis required!!

  9. Reflection (Due after your presentation): • Your reflection must be typed, Times New Roman, size 12 font, in paragraph form. • How did you determine the usefulness of the sources used to develop your presentation? • What did you learn about the skills covered in the unit from completing this task? • How can the skills learned in this task be applied for future use? • How did you multimedia product support your learning?
