  4. WATA系統發展緣起 • 網路教學最大的優勢： • 不受時間與空間的侷限 • 可隨著個人的需求調整學習進度(self-paced learning) • e-Learning的學習方式雖打破傳統教學於時間、空間上的限制，提升了學習者的學習自主性 • 少了傳統教學的約束性，使得學習者的網路學習效益容易受到影響

Theory background of ZPD-WATA • 潛在發展區 (Zone of Proximal Development, ZPD) • Vygotsky (1978) 社會認知理論 • 強調社會情境脈絡 (尤其是成人) 對於學童學習與發展的影響 • 學童藉由與成人或較優秀的同儕互動，來內化抽象的概念與操作(operations) • Vygotsky 不以評量學童已成熟的認知過程表現為重點，而是重視學童在成人的協助下，認知可以發展到的層次 • 「缺乏成人協助 (assistance) 下的表現」與「具有成人協助下的表現」之間的差異，稱為「潛在發展區 (Zone of Proximal Development, ZPD)」
