  4. Role of Accommodation Solutions Team • Developing housing opportunities for people with learning disabilities • Contracting – new contracts and reviews • Looking at existing provision and needs in each District Council area

  5. OUR VISION People with learning disabilities with all levels of support needs will have as great a choice as possible over where and how they live.

  6. PARTNERSHIP We work in partnership with: • Housing Associations • Care Providers • District Council Housing Departments • Service Users • Family Carers • Health

  7. HOUSING STANDARDS The following are some statements that we have agreed about standards in housing: 1. Housing should be like other housing in the area and non institutional in appearance.

  8. HOUSING STANDARDS 2. We aim to keep housing for people with learning disabilities in as small developments as possible so that they are part of the community and do not appear as large distinct buildings.

  9. HOUSING STANDARDS 3. Housing should be available that enables people with learning disabilities to be placed close to family and friends. There should be good transport links and local shops and amenities should be accessible.

  10. HOUSING STANDARDS 4. It is important to look at ways to prevent isolation. This can be achieved by looking at opportunities for people to engage in a range of activities. There is also the possibility of considering the use of communal areas in certain developments.

  17. CURRENT ISSUES • Economy - Less Housing being built • Expanding role of support providers to access housing • Re-using existing HCC accommodation

  18. Links with District Councils • Accommodation Solutions are making closer links with District Councils • Each District will have a profile of housing need to base new developments • Boards being set up including Accommodation Solutions, Housing and Planning representatives
