  2. Verification Definition “Verification: the process through which agency partners ensure practices, treatments, and technologies resulting in reductions of nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment pollutant loads are implemented and operating correctly.”

BMP Verification Life Cycle BMP no longer present/functional removed from database OR BMP installed, verified, and reported by Jurisdiction BMP verified/ upgraded with new technology Initial Inspection BMP gains efficiency Data quality assurance/ validation BMP lifespan ends – re-verify BMP Performance BMP nears end of life span Follow-up Checks BMP fully functional BMP performance metrics collected

  4. What’s Being Targeted… • Agriculture • Forestry • Stormwater • Wastewater • Streams • Wetlands • Any practice yielding nutrient/sediment pollutant reductions reported for credit

  5. Who’s Going to be Effected… • State agencies • County agencies • Municipal authorities • Conservation districts • Local elected officials and their departmental/agency staffs • Non-governmental organizations with emphasis on funders, implementers, and watershed organizations • Individual farmers • Homeowners

BMP Verification Schedule • May 12: Distribute revised framework report • May 15: Brief the Citizens Advisory Committee • June 5: Brief the Local Governments Advisory Committee • June 9: Brief the WQ, Habitat, Fisheries, Healthy Watersheds Goal Implementation Teams • June 17: Brief the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee • July 31: BMP Verification Committee conference call to address feedback from GITs and advisory committees • Aug 8: Distribute final draft framework document • Sept 11: Present to Management Board • October: Seek final approval from Principals’ Staff Committee

  7. Post PSC Approval Schedule • Fall/Winter: Jurisdictions develop and document their BMP verification programs • Spring/Summer: BMP Verification Review Panel mtgs with jurisdictions on the Panel’s reviews • 2015/2016: Jurisdictions ramping up their enhanced/new BMP verification programs

  8. Need from Communications Workgroup • Take March 2014 draft communications strategy and turn it into a real, workable communications and outreach plan • Help flesh out the key messages • Determine roles/responsibilities of individual jurisdictions vs. partnership outreach and communications
