  1. Practical Report Gravimetric Analysis grams/ litre yeild

  2. Aim • To determine yield of a dissociation /precipitation reaction

  3. Hypothesis • That the mass of precipitate product (dependent variable) is set by the concentration and volumes or reactants (independent variable)

  4. Materials • 1 M CuSO4 • 1 M NaHCO3 • Burettes • Beakers • Filter paper • Ring clamp • Funnel

  5. Variables • Ind – Reactants • Dep – Products • Con – concentrations, volumes, temp, pressure

  6. Method • In a beaker measure 10 ml CuSO4 and weight • Measure and weigh 20 ml 1 M NaHCO3 in a beaker and replace to burette • Titrate NaHCO3 into CuSO4 until first precipitation (note quantity) • Titrate titrate 20 ml • Measure mass of CO2 evolved • With filtration measure mass of Cu(OH)2 • With evaporation measure mass of Na2SO4

  7. Background • What is Glauber's salt and why would you eat it? • Identify / describe / explain the above representation of a chemical
