  1. LESSONS LEARNED And we are still learning….

  2. PEOPLE LESSONS • It takes a whole organization to make a social enterprise work • Real change takes time and there are going to be bumps along the way • Communicate, communicate, communicate

  3. BUSINESS LESSONS • The business plan will look different in reality • Watch the business constantly and make changes as required • Your mission will be secondary to your customers

  4. CULTURAL LESSONS • Sometimes the decisions need to support the mission objectives. • Sometimes the decisions need to support the business objectives. • Business is a different culture – not wrong

  5. SUCCESS TO DATE • Providing a solid program to a group of clients that previously had no support • Earning $16,000/year of unrestricted funds • Staff & Board are engaged in a new level of skills and thinking

  6. VISION OR PROGRAMS • “Programs are inherently reactionary… this doesn’t make them ‘bad’. It just makes them reactionary, meaning that they always follow, never lead…By contrast, vision doesn’t wait for something bad to happen, it pursues something desirable. Vision doesn’t oppose, it proposes. It doesn’t stave off defeat; it opens the way for success”. Daniel Quinn.
