  1. p605 23.1 Plant Cells and Tissues

  2. Plant cells have a cell wall, large vacuole, chloroplasts Review

  3. Parenchyma- most abundant tissues of plants Collenchyma- long thick cells Sclerenchyma- rigid and thick 3 types of plant cells

  4. Thick, protective coating of a plant Epidermis-stomata- controls water loss and gas exchange by opening and closing Guard cells- control opening and closing of stomata Dermal tissue

  5. Xylem- transports water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant. Phloem-transports sugars throughout the plant. Vascular tissues

  6. 23.3 Plant responses

  7. Hormone- chemical produced in one part of an organism that causes changes in another part. Auxins, gibberelins, cytokins- produce cell growth P 623 Ethylene-promotes ripening of fruit.

  8. Moving, responding to env., light, gravity, temp, length of day Plant responses

  9. Growing because of gravity Gravitropism

  10. Response to touch- a vine curling around a fence Thigmotropism

  11. Venus fly trap- movement causes it to close Nastic response

  12. Moving toward light- sunflower phototropism
