  4. A couple of Friendly Reminders… • For quick questions, please email your counselor. Email is a great way to get answers about Letters of Rec., schedule concerns, teacher concerns, etc. • If you need more time, you may make an appointment with your counselor. Passes may be filled out before, after school, or during lunch • Please do not leave class to fill out a pass or ask to see your counselor. You will be asked to go back to class unless it is an emergency.

  7. PSAT TEST • The date for the test on campus is Saturday, October 19that 7:40 am • Register through www.TotalResgistration.net/PSAT/030581. • Registration closes on September 18 • The cost is $25.00. • You must bring Photo/School ID

  8. ASVAB Test • The test provides a world class, comprehensive career exploration and planning opportunity. • It helps you explore career interests and occupations based on your answers. • The ASVAB will be administered in the BCHS auditorium on Tuesday, Feburary11thduring periods 1-4. Report directly to auditorium that day. You will be responsible to make up missed work in your classes. • It is FREE and space is limited! • Sign up in the counseling office starting January 7th!

  9. College Testing Timeline FREE ACT on campus March 24th Use results from PSAT and ACT to decide if you should retake ACT or take SAT in Spring/Summer of Junior year.

College Fairs and College Representatives • AZ College Consortium Fair on Campus September 20th On Campus (Next Slide) • NACAC College Fair – October 21st 11:30-3:00 at the Phoenix Convention Center. Students can register at: www.gotomyncf.com • Throughout the year, college representatives will be visiting our campus. Sign up in the Counseling department or sign up for flex-time to meet with them and ask questions. • Check the daily announcements and subscribe to the BCHS Bulletin to get important information • Visit college campuses and take tours to find the right fit for you.

Individual ECAP Meeting • In the next few weeks, counselors will be calling Junior students down to go over your ECAP (Education, Career, Action Plan). • We will reviewing your post secondary plans and you will selectcourses for senior year. • In preparation for this meeting, we need you to start thinking about your post secondary goals and your plans to reach those goals.

  16. Credits: Graduation Requirements • 22 Credits are required to graduate from BCHS • 4 credits of English Language Arts • 4 credits of Math • 3 credits of Lab Science (1 must be Biology) • .5 credit of Health & .5 credit of P.E. • 3 credits of Social Studies • 1 credit of CTE OR Fine Arts • 6 credits of Elective courses

Preparing for ECAP meeting with your counselor • Required Senior classes: • 1 credit English • 1 credit Math • .5 credit Government • .5 credit Economics • 1 elective credit • Please keep in mind that this is the minimum number of credits required; many seniors will need additional credits for a full day.

  18. Senior Schedule Reminders:“I want a half day!” • Only those students who are on track with credits are eligible for a half day their senior year. • A request for a half day is NOT a guarantee. • Half day does not necessarily mean that you will have a morning-only schedule (morning senior classes fill up).

  19. Individual ECAPS • Counselors will call down students for individual meeting • Please come at specified time on passes for individual ECAPS

  20. Goal or Plan: What is the difference? • Post-Secondary Goal ~ Identify your long-term goal. • For example: Do you want to be a pilot? A teacher? A pediatrician? A welder? A police officer? A nurse? • Post-Secondary Plan ~ Identify a plan for how to reach your goal. • For example: After high school I will ______________ attend a 4-year university / go to community college / seek career training / join the military / join the workforce

Developing your Plan • Attend Community College with the intent to transfer to a 4-year university (after 2 years or earning an AA degree) • Attend Community College to earn a 2-year degree and/or career certification • Attend a 4-year university directly from BCHS (fall of 2018) • Enter the workforce directly from BCHS • Enlist in the military

Wrap-up…Share what you’ve Learned! • Be ready for your individual ECAP meeting with your counselor. • Come to meeting on time with pass. • Bring your purple course request form. • Talk to teachers and parents about your course options. • Make sure your choices align with your post secondary goals.
