  2. Plot Summary • Living in a crazy family can be difficult to face! Doug Swieteck, the main character, has a lot to deal with at home. His father is abusive, mother is passive aggressive, his brothers are less than supportive, and not to mention they just moved to a new city. Seems like a lot to handle, huh? That’s only the beginning! Being a new student, he must find where he belongs. After embarrassment his spirits seem to be broken until he meets a spunky new friend, Lil Spicer. Doug channels his emotions into his artwork. This coming of age story represents the little bit of Doug we have in all of us.

  3. Why Should You Read It? • Finalist for National Book Award for Young People’s Literature Prize by National Book Foundation in 2011 • This story is relatable by people of all ages and backgrounds. • “OKAY FOR NOW is a powerful story of self-discovery and transformation effectively told in the strong, distinctive voice of its young protagonist.
