What are the California Standards Tests (CSTs)? • The CSTs measure student performance on California Academic Content Standards • Students in grades 2 through 11 are assessed in language arts and mathematics • Science is assessed in grades 5, 8 and 10 • History/Social Science is assessed in grades 8 and 11 • Tests are administered in the Spring and results are released in August • The CSTs offer perspective on content standards mastery within a grade and subject area

Why are the CSTs Important? • Schools are charged with the task of helping as many students as possible become proficient or better in the California Content Standards. • The CSTs are criterion referenced measures. Student performance on each of the tests are evaluated and given a ranking: advanced, proficient, basic, below basic, or far below basic. • The CSTs are a important measure that helps us gauge student progress in mastering grade level content standards • CSTs are one measure that help us evaluate our school programs in relation to California Content Standards
