  30. Benefits of Recycling and TerraCycling Environmental 1.Saves Natural Resources -Recycling keeps items out of landfills -Less new materials need to be harvested. Recycling 1 ton of office paper saves about 24 trees. 2.Saves Energy -It takes 95% less energy to recycle aluminum than it does to make it from raw materials. Making recycled steel saves 60%, recycled newspaper 40%, recycled plastic 70%, and recycled glass 40%.

  31. Benefits-continued Social 1. Recycling Aluminum cans supports the youth rec. program 2. Money from TerraCycle benefits the Environmental Club - Gas cards for carpooling - Earth Day supplies: stickers, suckers, etc. - Bat house materials - Club trips 3. Money from TerraCycle benefits various charitable causes Economic 1. Lower taxes. Waste Management companies have to pay to have trash sent to a landfill, but can profit from selling recycled materials. 2. Creates jobs

  32. TerraCycling Makes a Difference 6 points Give clean water to one person for a week 2 points Adopt 36 square ft of wildlife land Waste units collected (Potosi) : Juice pouches = 23,895 Chip bags = 7,202 Total = 31,097 240 points Give one baby chicken to a needy family Waste units collected: 2,291,720,509.0 Money for charity: $4,005,760.30

  33. “It takes each of us to make a difference for all of us.” Jackie Mutcheson - Teacher
