Background Checks • New vendor is HireRight • Basic Package Includes: • Employment verification • Education verification • Criminal background checks • SSN Trace • The finalist receives communication directly from HireRight to complete the form that allows them to complete the checks • We no longer need to request a copy of the driver license or request the date of birth from the candidate for this purpose

Affirmative Action Plan • Organizations that do business with the federal government or receive federal government funds are required to implement formal affirmative action plans • Affirmative Action laws require FIU to implement a very specific plans to identify and hire certain protected class members: WOMEN, MINORITIES & VETERANS • An AAP consists of statistical analyses of the employer's "underutilization" of individuals from certain protected classes

  9. Pool Certification Certification of the Applicant Pool • The applicant pool must be certified by EOPD prior to the committee’s discussion of the candidates. Certification of the Interview Pool • We will no longer certify the interview pool • You are still required to input the information into the system • Pursuant to the OFCCP we are required to monitor the process • Upfront Conversations

  11. Student Employment Week April 11th - 15th, 2011 MARK YOUR CALENDARS! During “Student Employment Week” FIU will recognize students who are both seeking their degree at the University and have chosen to gain invaluable work experience by also choosing to be an FIU employee, “Student Assistant” or “Federal Work Study”. At the end of the week, on Friday, April 15th, one student will be awarded the “SEOTY” Student Employee of the Year Recognition. Deadline for submitting nominations: Monday, February 28, 2011 Forms are available on HR and Financial Aid website.

Deadline for nominations: • Monday, February 28, 2011 • *Nomination form available on HR and Financial Aid website • *Departments may submit one form per Division • *Must be delivered to PC 224 • *Department should email picture of student employee at work to: • fwsoncamp@fiu.edu • Criteria: • Degree seeking part-time/full-time student • Student Assistant or FWS employee. • Graduate Teaching or Research Assistants are not eligible.
