  2. Curriculum Expectations • Language and Math curriculums are built on a spectrum, we will move students along the continuum as fits their individual needs. • Ontario Curriculum is available online. Simply Google Ontario Curriculum.

  4. Social Studies Grade 4 Grade 5 Canada – Government and Citizenship Upper Canada and the Fur Trade • Canada – Physical regions and mapping • Ancient Civilizations

  5. Health Grade 4 Grade 5 Long and short term effects of Alcohol use. Personal Safety – resistance techniques, healthy relationships. Puberty Healthy Eating – analyzing food labels. • Long and short term effects of Smoking. • Personal Safety – bike, water, train, walking home. • Stages of Growth and Development from infancy to adulthood. • Healthy Eating – identifying parts of food.

The BIG Picture • Critical Thinking • Understanding world events and how they affect us. • Analyzing purpose, message and intent behind literature. • Supporting their ideas and answers • Collecting proof through research. • Making logical arguments and connections (to text, self and world). • Communicating their understanding • Organized work. • Showing the thinking process. • Explains their understanding in multiple ways.

  8. How You can support your child. • Discuss world events critically. • Provide a quiet supported place to complete homework. • Attempt to discuss your child’s learning with them. This can be a challenge. • Please sign and return completed tests and assignments. • Write us a note if your child was not able to complete assigned work. • Keep us informed of your child’s needs.

  10. Food in the Classroom • No Nut Products!!!! We have nut allergies in both classrooms. • Students may have snacks in class, help them choose healthy and neat snacks that can be eaten while working and without disturbing others. • We may have healthy food celebrations from time to time but please refrain from sending treats in for Birthday Celebrations.
