  2. Introduction to MPEG-UD • Service converging towards user-centric or user-driven • User’s information is getting more important for providing user-specific services • Utilizing proprietary formats for user information without being aware of how they are used and gathered • Vision • All user information is stored in UD and may be safely and securely managed by the users • Providing systematic user information • Securing sensitive information • Providing service information • Providing context information • Providing customized usage of service

  3. Up-to-date history of MPEG-UD • 98th MPEG : Establishment of MPEG-UD • 99th MPEG : Draft Use Cases MPEG-UD ver 1.0 • 100th MPEG : Draft Requirements on UD ver 1.0 • Draft Use Cases MPEG-UD ver 2.0 • 101st MPEG : Draft Requirements on UD ver 2.0 • Draft Use Cases MPEG-UD ver 3.0 • 102nd MPEG : Draft Requirements on UD ver 3.0 • Draft Use Cases MPEG-UD ver 4.0 • Draft Call for Proposals on MPEG-UD

  4. Terms & Definitions • User : • human or software agents, industrial processes or devices that are capable of an independent self-planned activity in general • Service : • functionalities (human or software/hardware generated) offered to the users • Context : • environmental situation in which the user is located e.g., used device, physical position, available devices including software agent

  5. Composition of MPEG-UD CUD (Customized Usage Description) CUD Engine UD (User Description) CD (Context Description) SD (Service Description)

  6. Terms & Definitions • UD (User Description) : • contains static and dynamic properties about one or more users, information about the user history, preferences, security and so on • CD (Context Description) : • describes the environmental situation in which the user is located, e.g., used device, physical position, environmental variables (temperature, moisture, etc), security • SD (Service Description) : • contains pertinent information (including security) about the services that are offered by the applications • CUD (Customized Usage Description) : • represents structured and enriched description which may include relationships, distributed environments, and tracking of the finding customization • CUD engine (Out of the scope of the standard): • operated by the service provider , the user or third party
