Board Time Line • January 2012: Board will approve list of General Education Core courses that constitute a minimum of 45 credit hours • June 2012: Board will approve outcomes for as many of the identified General Education Core courses as possible, from recommendations of the TAAC • December 2012: Board will approve outcomes for the remaining General Education Core courses having received recommendations from the TAAC and KCOG

  6. Transfer Governance Structure

  7. TAAC • Coordinating body of the statewide transfer and articulation system. • Empowered with decision-making authority in the implementation of policies regarding transfer and articulation issues for Kansas public institutions.

Kansas Core Outcomes Groups • Discipline-specific groups within the transfer and articulation system with representation from each institution. • Responsible for discipline-level examination of courses, articulation of learning outcomes, and identifies courses to articulate as direct equivalents for system-wide transfer

The KRSN System • System’s 3-course prefix followed by a 4-digit course number for approved courses for transfer • Enrolling in KRSN courses assists students plan their individual course transfer • Assigned to each course that has been approved for transfer • Designed to ensure the successful transfer of course credits between 2 and 4-year institutions

  11. KRSN COURSES • Each institution retains its original course number • Represent direct course equivalency at Kansas public 2-year colleges and 4-year universities • KRSN courses are used as an agreement of transfer

Distance Education Distance Education Flag • Initially populated by KBOR according to survey sent to institutions last Fall • Institutions will now be responsible for populating and maintaining field • Yes or No Why? The Kansas Board of Regents, based on KS Statutes which stipulate that KBOR will "develop and implement a comprehensive plan for the utilization of distance learning technologies," is collecting data about which programs are delivered through these technologies and reporting on this information annually to the Board.

AO-K Initiative • The Kansas Board of Regents, in partnership with the Kansas Department of Commerce, received $1.6 million to transform workforce training models. • Partnership supports nine community and technical colleges that offer AO-K programs. • Combines basic education with practical, hands-on training resulting in skills and credentials – including a GED – that lead to good jobs.

Kansas Education Research Scholars Program (KERSP) KERSP is designed to: 1.Engage researchers in targeted research of interest to Kansas education stakeholders, 2.Develop a tradition of Kansas-focused educational research to promote improvement in Kansas public education, 3.Provide priority access to data from the Statewide Longitudinal Data System, a joint effort between KBOR and KSDE, and 4.Generate opportunities for KSDE and KBOR to learn from researchers.

Kansas Education Research Scholars Program (KERSP) • Open to faculty of Kansas public universities • 10 research topics have been identified that are relevant to KBOR and the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) • Maximum of eight stipends of $5,000 may be awarded • Additional funding of $2,500 per award may be available to supplement travel to present findings at relevant educational conference • Proposals due by noon, June 25, 2012

Kansas Education Research Scholars Program (KERSP) • Proposals must: • Address at least one of the 10 identified research topics • Include the use of the Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) • Technical assistance will be available following the RFP release. This assistance can assist Principal Investigators in identifying, refining, and evaluating datasets for consideration.

  34. Common Education Data Standards • CEDS is a national collaborative effort to develop voluntary, common data standards for a key set of education data elements. • CEDS is a vocabulary including standard definitions, option sets and technical specifications to streamline sharing and comparing

Program Alignment: Overview • An initiative of the Postsecondary Technical Education Authority (TEA) & part of the Perkins State Plan • Needs of business and industry in Kansas drive the initiative • Process comprised of 5 phases— • first 4 phases initial alignment • last phase for revise and modify alignment based on input after implementation
