Examples/Non-examples of “Say Something”

• This. Why are people starting to look at Thomas like he knows something?
• Not that. Who is the boy that really doesn’t like Thomas?

Make a prediction:

• NOT this. I think that Thomas will run in the Maze because it is the title of the book.
• But THAT. I think that the boys are going to start fighting / falling apart in the Glade because the girl is different, she says things will change, and there are no more helpers coming.
Examples/Non-examples of “Say Something”

Make a comment:

• This. I like the part where the boys are lipping off about the girl because it shows they are still just regular teenagers even with everything else that is going on.
• Not that. I like the way she sits up so weird, talks, and holds her hand out because it is weird.

Make a connection:

• NOT this. This is like The Outsiders because all the main characters are boys.
• But THAT. Gally’s hatred of Thomas is like Bob Sheldon not liking greasers. I think this because they don’t really know each other but they are making decisions about how they feel anyway.
