  2. Collocation Meeting Objective • coordinate with FP7, ESA & EUMETSAT ECV projects in the processes of generating, validating and updating (including reanalysis) ECVs • understand the gaps between the ECVs and user needs in climate change adaptation and mitigation coreclimax.itc.nl

  3. Collocation Meeting Sessions • Session 1: Expectations towards ECV capability assessment from policy makers • Session 2: European capacity for generating ECVs • Session 3: Validation processes in ECVs • Session 4: Reanalysis feedbacks to ECV/CDR updates • Session 5: Identifying gaps between ECVs as physical variables and user-needs for adaptation and mitigation coreclimax.itc.nl

  4. Answers expected from policy makers: • What are the information/parameters you would like to have assessed? • By whom should these parameters be assessed (Producers/Users/Independent institution)? • How do you expect these to be reported/assessed? coreclimax.itc.nl

Answers expected from projects in generating ECVs : • Where do the ECVs stand in terms of the existing Maturity Index? • How is the raw satellite and in-Situ data converted into (each) ECV • Retrieval scheme, Data assimilation, Modeling • ECV consistency (e.g. closing Water Cycle) • To which application (area) of the Copernicus Climate Change Services do your ECVs contribute? • How are the ECVs disseminated? • Do you see required improvements (in each ECV), or “Future R&D needs?” (e.g. ‘data rescue’) coreclimax.itc.nl

Answers expected from projects in ECVs validation processes: • Is there a generic protocol/approach (independent validation/assessment) for product cal/val? • Is there a quality indicator ascribed to products, at each stage of the data processing chain-from collection to processing to delivery? • Is there an analysis on product continuity and consistency? • Gap analysis in terms of supporting efforts to make instruments SI traceable? /developing Cal/Val ‘best practices’ procedures? / meeting GCOS ECV requirements? coreclimax.itc.nl

Answers expected from projects in reanalysis feedbacks to ECV/CDR updates: • What information does your reanalysis project have that would be useful feedback to the providers of the ECV/CDR datasets • In what ways do you give this feedback to those providers • How do you request/receive updates, i.e. improved input datasets. coreclimax.itc.nl

Answers expected from projects in identifying gaps between ECVs as physical variables and user-needs for adaptation and mitigation: • How does your project contribute to the upcoming Copernicus Climate Change Services? • Who are the users of your products? • Do you see required improvements (in each ECV), or “Future R&D needs?” coreclimax.itc.nl
