  4. K-W-L What I learned: • The Ainu dog is thought to be one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world. They can hunt salmon, deer, and bears. • The Ainu dog is a medium sized canine that is well known for its strength and power.

  5. Food Sources • The Ainu hunted bears, deer, rabbit, fox, raccoon dog, and other animals. Ezo deer were a particularly important food source for the Ainu dog.

  7. Adaptations • Generally the double coat of thick fur is used to keep the dog warm. It has an innate sense of direction to find its way home.

  8. Natural Habitat • The Ainu dog is thought to be one of the oldest breeds of dog in the world, first bred by the indigenous Ainu people of Hokkaido which is in Japan.
