  1. Year 11 Autumn 2 Autumn 1 BIOLOGY 11 B4 The Process of Life Key Skills and Content • How do chemical reactions take place in living things? • How do plants make food? • How do living organisms obtain energy? This unit looks at the importance of enzymes and cellular reactions which keeps us alive.

  2. Year 11 Autumn 2 Autumn 1 CHEMISTRY 11 C4 – Chemical Patterns Key Skills and Content • What are the patterns in the properties of elements? • How do chemists explain the patterns in the properties of elements? • How do chemists explain the properties of compounds of Group 1 and Group 7 elements? This unit looks at why the periodic table is arranged the way it is and patterns in chemical reactions.

  3. Year 11 Autumn 2 Autumn 1 PHYSICS 11 P4 Explaining Motion Key Skills and Content This unit looks at the laws of gravity and motion and helps us understand the relationship between energy and forces. • How can we describe motion? • What are forces? • What is the connection between forces andmotion? • How can we describe motion in terms of energy changes?

  4. Year 11 Autumn 2 Autumn 2 BIOLOGY 11 B5 Growth & Development Key Skills and Content This unit explains the role of our genes and how we develop and grow. It also looks at how this can be manipulated. • How do organisms develop? • How does an organism produce new cells? • How do genes control growth and development within the cell?

  5. Year 11 Autumn 2 Autumn 2 CHEMISTRY 11 C5 Chemicals of the Natural Environment Key Skills and Content • What types of chemicals make up the atmosphere? • What reactions happen in the hydrosphere? • What types of chemicals make up the Earth’s lithosphere? • How can we extract useful metals from minerals? This unit tells us where we get all our raw materials from and the processes we employ to extract them.

  6. Year 11 Autumn 2 Autumn 2 PHYSICS 11 P5 Electric Circuits Key Skills and Content • This unit explains how electric current is induced and transported to our homes. It also looks at how we can alter current. • Electric current – a flow of what? • What determines the size of the current in an electric circuit and the energy it transfers? • How do parallel and series circuits work? • How is mains electricity produced? • How do electric motors work?

  7. Year 11 Autumn 2 Spring 1 BIOLOGY 11 B6 Brain and Mind Key Skills and Content • How do animals respond to changes in their environment? • How is information passed through the nervous system? • Can reflex responses be learned? • How do humans develop more complex behaviour? • This unit explains how we learn and how the brain changes as we develop and learn new skills.

  8. Year 11 Autumn 2 Spring 1 CHEMISTRY 11 C6 Chemical Synthesis Key Skills and Content • This unit enables the development of practical skills used in industry and we learn how to get maximum yield. • Chemicals and why we need them • Planning, carrying out and controlling a chemical synthesis

  9. Year 11 Autumn 2 Spring 1 PHYSICS 11 P6 Radioactive Materials Key Skills and Content • Why are some materials radioactive? • How can radioactive materials be used and handled safely, including wastes? • In this unit we find out what makes substances radioactive and how long they will be radioactive for.
