A wide variety of instruments are available/being used… • In-country workshops and surveys • Sector studies of corruption • Country Procurement Assessment Reports (CPARs) • Country Financial Accountability Assessments(CFAAs) • Institutional and Governance Reviews (IGR) • Public Expenditure Reviews • Country Economic Memoranda • Adjustment lending and Sector Investment Loans • WBI survey/ workshops /training • Management visits/policy dialogue • Partnerships with like minded groups ( e.g. donors/NGOs) • Department of Institutional Integrity • Disclosure Policy/ Public Information centers By: Vinay Bhargava

Already a mainstream business !According to a recent OED study covering FY98-01… • 75 % of 113 CASs, TSS, ISS, CAS Progress Reports , recognized corruption concerns explicitly or implicitly. • 230 In-country workshops and surveys conducted in 54 countries. • 180 Governance related Economic and Sector work in 63 countries. • 117 Grant based Technical assistance in 52 countries. • 175 Governance related projects worth US$14 B in 70 countries. Involves more than 15% of lending. • WBI activities- training, surveys, governance indicators, and Anti-corruption resource center website. By: Vinay Bhargava

A Suggested Framework for Integrating Governance and Anti-corruption Agenda in Country Operations Activities • Making a thorough assessment of governance environment. • Defining the interventions that are likely to succeed in your country governance environment. ( Including option to stay away). • Identifying the best suited CAS instruments to implement the selected interventions. • Forging strategic partnerships with like minded groups . • Setting up regular monitoring and reporting systems for inputs , outputs and outcomes.
