  1. Middle School Appeals Process Created by School Counselor Cara Turnbull

  2. Who can appeal? • Created by School Counselor • Cara Turnbull

  3. Anyone who is dissatisfied with the offer he/she received from the main round can appeal. Because appeals are not based on need, families can appeal any offer they have received, whether it was a 3rd choice offer or an offer the family didn’t choose. • Created by School Counselor • Cara Turnbull

  4. Appeals are not prioritized by need. This means, students who are appealing their 5th or 6th choice or a school that was not listed on their application are not given higher consideration than students who are appealing their 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice. • Created by School Counselor • Cara Turnbull

  5. What schools can you appeal for? • Created by School Counselor • Cara Turnbull

  11. After assessing all students, they ranked them in numerical order and selected the top 30 students. Those students names were sent to Enrollment to be offered a placement at MS 30. MS 30 gets their list of the 22 students who have been matched with their school (names in green). The remaining 8 students are then placed on the school’s “overflow” list along with the other students (underlined names). MS 30 is a middle school that had 22 available seats during the main round of the process and received 50 applicants. MS 30 Applicant List 1. Guadalupe Duffy 2.Lewis Santos 3. Mattie Walton 4. 13. District 15 Middle Schools have come together and implemented a uniform policy regarding appeals. This policy states that none of the schools are accepting Letters of Recommendation, report cards or any other type of academic documentation as a part of the appeals process. The schools would also like you to know that due to the hectic pace of things at this time of the year, they cannot answer the high volume of emails that they receive so a response is highly unlikely. Lastly, you’re discouraged from showing up at the schools to speak with someone without an appointment. They will not be able to accommodate you. As a school, we are going to respect this policy and act in accordance with their request.  Any requests made for Letters of Recommendations from our teachers is no longer in standing and also future requests for letters is prohibited. • Created by School Counselor • Cara Turnbull

  14. When do you learn about appeals decisions? • Created by School Counselor • Cara Turnbull

  15. Appeal notification letters will be distributed in June before the end of the school year. If an appeal is granted, it overrides the main round offer you received in April. If an appeal is not granted, the main round offer you received in April stands as your school offer. • Created by School Counselor • Cara Turnbull
