In thinking about the 1.5 year growth goal… • In general, many teachers throw up their hands with some students for many reasons • But you’re in this class, so you obviously think that you can do something that will make a difference for those ‘hard to teach kids’ • In thinking about this, let’s return to acceleration

Acceleration • LLI/ILe/Reading Recovery/Pre A/Guided Reading Plus are all based on the same philosophy • one of the major contributions this philosophy has offered is the idea that WE can accelerate children no matter who the child is or what their circumstance • How? – by improving our craft and our knowledge • “When a child in my class is struggling, the first place I look is in the mirror.” –Ann Christensen
