  1. EMI (European Middleware Initiative) • Collaboration among ARC, dCache, gLite, UNICORE (http://eu-emi.eu) • To simplify, standardize, support the middleware services • Strongly requirement-driven (use GGUS to submit or talk to EGI) • One EMI distribution containing all middleware services • Three major releases, one per year (EMI 1, 2 and 3) • Between releases, all services release at independent rates, but with common release criteria (backward compatible changes, supported platforms, packaging guidelines, certification procedures, etc) • One public repository at http://emisoft.web.cern.ch • Currently support for SL5. Being ported on SL6 and Deb 6 • “Add-on” repository for EPEL, no duplication of externals • Long-term goals • Standard open-source approach, middleware provided directly from EPEL, Debian, etc (reduce the need for an EMI repo in the future) • “Product Teams” contribute as needed, fully responsible for their products, user community driven development GridPP Workshop, CERN
