  1. Bellwork(do this on your own paper for today…) • Explain how we use soap to clean dishes. • Describe what happens when you mix dish soap with water. • Predict what YOU THINK would happen if you mixed dish soap with milk.

  2. Milk Kaleidoscope Lab When you go to your lab station, you should have the following materials: • 3 petri dish halves • Graduated cylinder • One beaker each of water, 2% milk, whole milk • Pipettes (one in each beaker) • Beaker of soap with pipette * Mr. Tyler will have the dyes when you are ready

  3. Milk Kaleidoscope Lab • Use pipettes to measure 25mL water and pour into a petri dish • Repeat for 2% and whole milk • Let dishes sit for 1 minute • Add one drop of each color of dye to each dish; one drop in each corner (This can stain clothes and fingers! Be careful!) Ex 

  4. Milk Kaleidoscope Lab 5. Record your observations after adding the dye. 6. Add one drop of soap to each dish and observe for a few minutes (one dish at a time…) 7. Record your observations for each dish. 8. Clean and dry your equipment when you finish.

  7. Post-Lab (WTQ) • Describe what happened when you added the dye to each dish. • Describe what happened when you added the dish soap to each dish. • Explain why YOU THINK this happened to the milk when you added the soap. • Predict what other liquids would have the same reaction to the soap as the milk.
