  1. Virginia SOL Instructions for Online Test

  2. Introduction • Test questions presented one at a time • Multiple choice • To select answers using the mouse, put the pointer over an answer and click once • To select answers using the keyboard, simply type the letter that corresponds to your answer (example, tap “A” to select answer “A”)

  4. Navigation • Navigation buttons appear at the bottom of the screen • Scroll down if you don’t see them – the scroll bar is on the right side of the window

  5. Navigation Buttons • Back returns to the previous screen • Next goes to the next question • Reset clears your answer if you change your mind • Review marks a question to return to later • To unmark, click on Review again

  6. Go to… • Go to… • Brings up a list of all questions and shows whether or not you answered them • Shows the ones you marked for review • “Not Answered” means question has NOT been answered • Blank means question has been answered

  8. Tools Return to Answer Mode • If tools are available, click on the appropriate icon at the top of the screen • For help with a tool, click on the help icon Help Highlighter Ruler Eraser Eliminate Choice Straightedge

  9. Return to Answer • If you clicked on any of the other tools, click here so that you can answer the question.

  10. Help • Help button • Click on the Button on which you need more information

  11. Eliminate Choice • Use to mark choices you don’t wish to consider • Eliminate as many choices as you want • Click on the Eliminate Choice Tool • Cursor becomes a red X • Then click on the choice you believe is not correct • To remove, click on Eliminate Choice tool again; then click on again on the answer

  18. When you finish… • Click on the Go to… button • Check to make sure all your questions are answered • Click on Submit to send your test for scoring • Click on Exit Test to close

  19. Don’t Worry... • Don’t worry – if you click on Submit and decide you aren’t really ready, it gives you a last chance to change your mind!!

  20. Don’t Worry… • If you click on Exit Test, and you forgot to submit your test… it gives you one more chance to review or to submit your answers!
