  1. McElroy Mechanical & Environmental Services Presents Pipe-bursting A trenchless method of mainline & service lateral pipe replacement

  2. Pipe Bursting Pipe-bursting is the displacement of a host pipe into the surrounding soil through bursting/splitting while simultaneously pulling a new pipe into it’s place. Only method of trench less technology where pipe can be upgraded size for size or upsized for increased capacity. Minimal surface disruption is achieved during installation. This reduces site and surface restoration, which lowers the total time and cost to complete project. Pipe-bursting can greatly improve the efficiency of a project compared to conventional methods where line replacement is required.

  3. Stages of a Pipe Burst • Pre-Construction Line Cleaning & CCTV Inspection

  4. Hydro Cleaning • Jet/Vac Crew thoroughly cleans pipeline before TV Crew begins inspection

  5. CCTV Inspection • CCTV Crew locates service connections and records needed data for pipe-bursting crew

  6. Stages of a Pipe Burst • Pre Construction Line Cleaning & CCTV Inspection • Pipe Fusion/Welding

  7. Pipe Fusion/Welding Pipe is welded together for entire segment to be burst.

  8. Stages of a Pipe Burst • Pre Construction Line Cleaning & CCTV Inspection • Pipe Fusion/Welding • Pit Excavation Layout

  9. Excavation Pits The Installation process begins with the excavation of launch, exit, and service connection pits for the length of pipe to be replaced.

  10. Launch Pit

  11. Service Connection Pit

  12. Exit Pit

  13. Stages of a Pipe Burst • Pre Construction Line Cleaning & CCTV Inspection • Pipe Fusion/Welding • Pit Excavation Layout • Launch Pit

  14. The Launch Pit The HDPE pipe is inserted into old host pipe thru Launch Pit.

  15. Launch Pit

  16. Pipe Positioned with Launch Pit

  17. Insertion Slot for HDPE Pipe

  18. Bursting Head Positioned for Coupling

  19. Pulling Rods Entering Launch Pit

  20. Bursting Head Connected to Pulling Rods

  21. The Launch Pit Area Ready for Burst`

  22. Stages of a Pipe Burst • Pre Construction Line Cleaning & CCTV Inspection • Pipe Fusion/Welding • Pit Excavation Layout • Launch Pit • Exit Pit

  23. The Exit Pit The Pull Machine is located in Exit Pit. This device pulls the bursting head and HDPE Pipe.

  27. Stages of a Pipe Burst • Pre Construction Line Cleaning & CCTV Inspection • Pipe Fusion/Welding • Pit Excavation Layout • Launch Pit • Exit Pit • Manhole Reconnection (s)

  28. Manhole Connection

  29. Service Lateral Replacement Service laterals are replaced using the same techniques as the mainline pipe systems.

  30. Service Connection Launch Pit

  31. Service Lateral Exit Pit

  32. Pulling Machine for Service Laterals

  33. Service lateral ready for re-connection

  34. Pipe bursting for line replacement Pipe-bursting is the most efficient form of line replacement. The ability to upsize your existing pipe systems for present and future growth through trench less technology is now a local, viable option! Utility System Owners/Managers have the ability to better plan future rehabilitation and replacement projects by utilizing all available forms of trench-less technology. NASSCO currently provides standardized specifications for assistance in writing specifications for pipe bursting system replacement projects.
