  2. The RRS Checklist • Product of Rethinking Resource Sharing (RRS) Project: http://rethinkingresourcesharing.org • Affiliated with ALA’s RUSA/STARS • Measurable list of RRS best practices • Promote and Educate

  3. Results Overview • Survey conducted July & August 2010 • 31 of 38 ASERL libraries responded (82%) • Sixteen scored 80% or above – achieving “RUSA STARS” rating. • Five others scored between 75% - 79% • Updated RRS Checklist & website to be released by RUSA/STARS Committee soon.

  4. 100% participation • Borrowing library uses ILL management software to submit requests • Library’s lending policies are up to date with current information, including contact information and posted within the resource sharing systems utilized • Library’s holdings are discoverable in www.worldcat.org • Library utilizes Open URL • Library utilizes Open URL resolvers • Library provides an online request form • Library’s borrowing policies and procedures are posted for users • Library staff is aware of the sharing permissions of the licensed content at the library • Library participates in reciprocal agreements with other library (e.g. LVIS or regional groups)

  5. “All But One” participation • Library processes user requests within 2 business days • Library provides online status of requests for users 24/7 • Library generally responds to/updates lending and borrowing transactions within 24 hours • Library’s electronic collections holdings are up to date in the local catalog • Library utilizes federated search tool for cross-collection searching by users • Borrowing library sends request to libraries outside of home country • Lending library loans new items • Library allows for remote (online or phone) renewals of materials • Library uses OCLC IFM to manage fee transactions • Library does not charge its library cardholders for basic ILL service

  6. “All But Two” Participation • Library accepts fax or email requests from other libraries • Library participates in local or regional courier services whenever possible to deliver materials • Library provides links to digitized collections in the local integrated library system (ILS) • Library loans non-returnable items to libraries outside of home country • Library acquires copies of locally created dissertations to circulate/share • Library loans microforms

Next Steps • Recognize those who achieved “STARS” level • Review upcoming revisions to RUSA survey • Foster discussions about best practices, who-does-what-and-why • Identify areas for easy improvements and allow libraries to re-take survey as desired • Webinars on emerging issues, e.g., convergence of ILL & Acquisitions, new tools for staff & users, etc.
