  2. Remarks / PRSP1 • Weakness in recognising role of energy services in the PRSP/MDGs • Energy services in the PSRP limited to the energy sector so, lack of synergy between energy and other strategic sectors

  3. CONSEQUENCES • Without energy services, key elements for achieving the PRSP objectives will be constrained, such as: • Mitigation of income generation opportunities • Lack of quality for basic social services such as Health, education, water • Reduction of opportunities to improve well being

  4. TOWARD A MULTISECTORAL APPROACH WB /GVEP regional meeting on energy and poverty Dakar, Sénégal, february 2003) Recommandation: creation of multisectoral group in each country Multisectoral group (CIMES) was created in Senegal

  5. Multisectoral approach

  6. CIMES ACTIVITIES • Great contribution on the methodology to identify Multisectoral Energy Program , PREMs Demand-Driven Rural Energy for Socio-Economic/ Productive Uses Traditional Rural Electrification • Whole country divided into 18 Concessions • Multisectoral energy projects (PREMs) developed for 3 concessions with GVEP (WB/ESMAP) assistance
