My background • I grew up in Southern California • I was in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. • I attended Cal State San Marcos and I’m working on my Masters degree. • My experience • I’ve been teaching for 14 years at NVES. • I taught 5th grade for all 14 years and this is my first year teaching 3rd. I am so excited and I am loving it so far!

Homework is given Monday through Thursday. • Students are required to record their assignments in their “Reminder Binder” daily. • Math - Math Facts & lesson practice • Reading – Nightly Reading at least 20 minutes • Unfinished work • Assignments are checked the following morning for completion. • Daily homework is practice/corrected but not counted in grade.

  7. This is the year your child will go from learning how to read to reading for meaning. • Questioning - Students will be asking and answering questions about what they read. • Main Idea • Point of View 1st Semester- Literature 2nd Semester- Non Fiction Text

  13. and Music VAPA – Visual and Performing Arts Student will receive instruction in these areas every Friday morning for the year. The first rotation will be visual arts.

Volunteers are welcome, but there are a few things that need to be done before you can come in to help: *Must have current TB test on file and other paperwork on file. *Parent tab on the TVUSD website *Be sure to ALWAYS check in and get your VOLUNTEER sticker in the office each time you visit. Please see Patricia in the front office if you have any questions.

  16. Students were given all needed supplies to start the year. Students will need to bring pencils and white-board markers as they use up the ones provided. Please refer to the “Wish List” if you would like to donate other items throughout the year.

  17. Folders will be coming home each Friday with the previous week’s work, tests and flyers. Please look over these papers with your child and send the initialed folder back to school on Monday.

  18. Classroom Management Rewards • Table points: Students earn table points for good behavior, being on task, clean tables, and working together. They can also lose table points! • Bonuses: Students can earn a bonus money & and tickets for good behavior. • Super Shields: Students may earn Super Shields for being Respectful, Responsible, or Safe.

  20. Absences ALL classwork and homework assigned during a student’s absence is required to be made up and must be completed within two days of the absence. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for missed class work and homework!!
