    8. SHUT-OFF OF UTILITIES – WATER After a serious incident occurs, it may be necessary to conserve all on-site water which can be used for drinking. The main sources of water will be found in the school’s hot-water heating tank(s). Therefore, it is important to know the location of and be able to shut off the main water line valve to the school. It is also important to know how to shut off the supply valve of each hot water tank immediately, so that this water will not be siphoned back into the city water mains, which will probably be ruptured and/or contaminated. Turn off main valve located at Front Maintenance with wrench located at Mechanical room. The exact locations of the site water tanks to be shut off are as follows: Mechanical room next to principal’s office, food & sewing E-4, boiler room & science E-3. Personnel responsible for shutting off main water line and hot water tank valves: Tony Gutierrez, Bob Snyder, and Richard Freda

    9. SHUT-OFF OF UTILITIES – ELECTRICITY A serious injury may occur if proper procedures are not followed when shutting off the main electrical service at the panel box (turning off power to the entire plant). It may be that the power supply into your site will be interrupted by either line breakage or automatic cutoff by the electric company. However, if it becomes necessary for personnel to shut off the power supply to the site, please follow these instructions: 1. Do not shut off the MAIN switch or circuit breaker. 2.Begin the electrical shutdown (using a wooden stick and wearing insulated gloves—stored in/near electrical panel) by turning off the sectional switches or branch circuit breakers (these are the smallest switches or circuit breakers in size). [Stand slightly to the side so to avoid any electrical flashing that may occur.] Do not shut off the MAIN switch or circuit breaker. 3.Progressively shut off electric switches or circuit breakers as they either increase in physical size or as they decrease in distance from the MAIN switch or breaker. Do not shut off the MAIN switch or circuit breaker. 4.Your main circuit breaker panel may have numbers along side or beneath each circuit breaker. Usually, the MAIN breaker will be marked #1 and the handle will be the largest in size. Secondary breakers will be marked from #2 on up and the handle or switch will be smaller than #1 switch. Shut off the largest number first. Do not shut off the MAIN switch or circuit breaker. 5.Electrical service should be turned on in reverse order, starting with the smallest number. Do not turn breaker(s) on if tagged or locked out.

    10. SHUT-OFF OF UTILITIES – ELECTRICITY If these procedures are not followed (i.e., the MAIN electrical switch is shut off and other circuits are left open) upon shutdown or reactivation, severe electrical flash may result, causing blindness; or an electrical explosion may occur, causing severe physical injury or death. Personnel responsible for shutting off main water line and hot water tank valves: Tony Gutierrez Alternate (1) Bob Snyder Alternate (2) Richard Freda Turn off small switches located at See attached map The main panel is located at front maintenance yard. NOTE: Turn off all machines and/or appliances that were on when the power was shut down. This includes computers, typewriters, coffee makers, toaster ovens, overhead lights.

    11. SHUT-OFF OF UTILITIES – GAS Since leaking natural gas can cause a fire or contribute to its growth, the hazard of fire is of primary concern. The main gas supply valve should be shut off as quickly as possible if the smell of gas is present. Because it could possibly take as much as a month, and possibly more, for the gas company to turn the service back on, the gas should only be turned off when leaking natural gas is detected by odor or by instruments. The exact locations of all gas shut-off valves are as follows: Mechanical room next to principal’s office, food & sewing E-4, boiler room & science E-3. Use wrench located at Mechanical room next to principal’s office. Personnel responsible for shutting off main gas supply valve and other gas valves: Tony Gutierrez Alternate (1) Bob Snyder Alternate (2) Richard Freda

    17. Emergency Water Distribution Plan The plan to distribute water to students during a disaster is as follows: The water will be available at the Storage Room shed (see map). Water will be rationed. Students will receive water approximately every two hours (adjustments will be made if weather requires more frequent distribution of water). We will encourage students to keep their cups until they are released from campus. Teachers will escort their students to the storage room. They will depart, receive water, and return to their holding location, one class at a time. The order of classes will follow a circular, clockwise route, around the holding area at the track and fields. (See Los Alisos Evacuation Plan).
