What is the olweus bullying prevention program
What is the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program?

  • The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) is the most researched and most widely known program of its kind.

  • OBPP is a whole-school program that addresses bullying at the schoolwide, classroom, individual and community levels.

  • Schools that have used the program have seen significant reductions in bullying.

  • The program is a long-term solution that becomes part of how a school “does school.”

  • OBPP is geared to students in grades K-12.

The main steps in implementating obpp
The Main Steps in Implementating OBPP

  • Each school establishes a Bullying Prevention Coordinating Committee (BPCC).

  • The BPCC gets trained by a certified Olweus Trainer; the trainer mentors the school monthly for a minimum of one year, 18-24 months preferred. The trainer can be a school district person or an outside trainer.

  • Each school administers the Olweus Bullying Questionnaire (OBQ) to all students Grades 3 - 12.

  • Each school BPCC examines their school policies and procedures, in conjunction with district level leadership and policies.

The main steps in implementation
The Main Steps in Implementation

5. Each school BPCC trains all school staff in their building.

6. Each school hosts a kick-off assembly with all students. Schools are encouraged to invite parents.

7. Classroom teachers hold weekly class meetings on bullying and related topics.

8. Parents are engaged through parent meetings and take-home information.

9. Each school administers the OBQ yearly to measure progress and to evaluate their efforts.
