  2. Before the builders came Brief: Build a sunroom with strong architectural features Construct outside area for entertaining Remove bay window & wall in dining room to create larger lounge

  3. After the builders came Brief: Build a Sunroom – Remove Bay Window – Extend lounge by removing existing dining room

  8. Removing the bay The frame and glass fitted – first time – no errors – no cracks You cannot see where the original bay window was

  9. Structural Work Architect had steelwork calculations peer-reviewed Building inspector cross checked the steelwork calculation Acroprops installed as lintels removed and steel work installed

  10. Structural work continues Use of personal protective equipment to safeguard workers Polythene sheeting to minimize mess for client

  11. Strong architectural features Custom built window with unusually deep frames Heavy - 6 man lift! - Glazing installed on site – fitted first time New sun roof bricks are perfect match with old bricks – linking theme New sun roof tiles match original house roof tiles

  12. Novel features Electric under-floor heating concurrently installed with lighting inset into floor tiles (not shown here) Herring bone brickwork behind wood burner Lighting inset in external patio

  14. Brief: Provide external area for entertaining: Design to be bold, strong and simple. Doors open through 180 degrees, patio laid to same level with falls away from house. Electronically operated canopy does not impinge on doors

  15. Sun room has 2 Velux windows – remotely controlled, and close automatically when it rains. Original design had 5 Velux windows . Builder advised that this would result in too much solar heating. Design included wood-burning stove, under-floor heating and external lighting to facilitate winter use. ( Snow arrived day after builders left!) Join between the old floor tiles and the new is indistinguishable
