  5. Caring for ministry leadersA Multi-cultural approach to effective ministry Whose responsible for caring for ministry leaders? This part of the Pulpit and the Pew Pastoral Leadership Project raises two theological issues. We clergy are no longer great examples of health. Today’s clergy have more stress and less support than the previous pastors who had more support and less resources. Thus, whole church must regain a theology of the stewardship of one’s personal health. ~ John Marshall Crowe,  B.A., M.Div., D.Min. A Multi-Cultural Approach to Effective Ministry

  12. Caring for ministry leadersA Multi-cultural approach to effective ministrygod Takes care of his leaders • Calls and equips (Exodus 35:30-31) • Heals (Exodus 15:26) • Provides (Philippians 4:19,Gen 22:14) • Fights our battles (Ex 14:13-14, 17:8-16) • Comforts (2 Cor. 1:3-4) • Guides and leads (Ps.16:11, 23, 32:8, 37:23, 119:105, Pr. 3:5-6, Is. 30:21) A Multi-Cultural Approach to Effective Ministry

  13. Caring for ministry leadersA Multi-cultural approach to effective ministry9 responsibilities of church members Source:counselingothers.com • To appreciate them (1 Thess 5:12-13). The first responsibility of the church members to their leaders is to “know” them. The word means “to appreciate or respect.” • To esteem them (Phil 2:29).  Believers are to hold leaders in high regard because of their work. The ministry is a high and holy work and believers are here exhorted to place proper value on their leaders—esteem them for their work’s sake. A Multi-Cultural Approach to Effective Ministry

  14. Caring for ministry leadersA Multi-cultural approach to effective ministry9 responsibilities of church members • To obey them (Hebrews 13:17). The third responsibility is that of obedience. Obey means “to be persuaded, or to listen to.” It speaks of an obedience that is the result of confidence. • To submit to them (Hebrews 13:17). Submission and obedience go hand in hand. Full obedience requires submission of the heart. Submit means “to yield under or surrender.” Believers are called to cheerfully rank themselves under their leaders because of the serious responsibility to watch over souls. A Multi-Cultural Approach to Effective Ministry

  15. Caring for ministry leadersA Multi-cultural approach to effective ministry9 responsibilities of church members • To support them (1 Tim 5:17-18, I Cor 9:14). The apostle makes it crystal clear, “the laborer is worthy of his wages.” The “double honor” that teaching shepherds are worthy of includes honor (respect) and financial remuneration. • To discipline them (1 Tim 5:19-20). Church members must also hold their leaders accountable for their life and doctrine—the two areas of greatest importance (1 Tim 4:16). When a leader is involved in open sin, or serious doctrinal error, God’s people are responsible to discipline him. A Multi-Cultural Approach to Effective Ministry

  16. Caring for ministry leadersA Multi-cultural approach to effective ministry9 responsibilities of church members • To remember them (Hebrews 13:7). Church members must remember their leaders. The word means “to call to mind, to recollect, or to be mindful.” It is a present imperative, meaning it is a command the body is to constantly fulfill. Believers are to constantly call their leaders to mind. • To mimic them (Heb 13:7). Another responsibility of the congregation toward their leaders is to mimic them. The word follow is from mimeomai, meaning “to mimic or imitate.” Follow their faith. A Multi-Cultural Approach to Effective Ministry

  17. Caring for ministry leadersA Multi-cultural approach to effective ministry9 responsibilities of church members • "Pray for us", pleads the Apostle in I Thessalonians 5:25; pray for us is the hearty response from every Christian pulpit in the land, and in the wide world. If the prayers of good men were entreated by such a man as Paul; and if, with his giant intellect, his eminent spirituality, and his intimate communion with God and things unseen, this holy man needed this encouragement and impulse in his work, who will not say "Brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified!"
