  1. INFORMATION ABOUT WATER CORRIDOR DANUBE-ODER-ELBE EU STRATEGY FOR THE DANUBE REGION VIENNA/BRATISLAVA 19-21 APRIL 2010

  2. Waterways for transport of the LNGDiversification of supply of strategic materials

  3. Connectivity of Danube – Oder - Elbe • Important transport project of IV. a VI. Transeuropian transport corridors, connection to VII. Transeuropian transport corridor; • Missing part of the network of the waterways according to EUROPEAN AGREEMENT ON MAIN INLAND WATERWAYSOF INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE (AGN) E20 – Elbe-Danube connection E30 – Oder-Danube connection • Parametres of the waterway: Vb. navigation class push-tow formation 185 x 11,4 m, draught 2,8 m navigation lock 190 x 12,5 x 4,0 m minimal width of the navigation way 40 m • „Blue book“ from 1998, revised 2006: D-O-E confirmed as a missing link by CZ, A, SK, PL and included in national development plans;

  4. EUROPIAN UNION • D-O-E connection is from 1993 in the list of TEN-T Network – Inland Waterways; • Paneuropian conference about inland navigation in Rotterdam 09/2000 recommend support effort to realization connection D-O-E,

  5. Waterways of the Czech Republic

  6. Regulated river Morava downstream the town Hodonín, running along riverrine forests represents practically ready-made stretch of the water corridor D-O-E.

  7. First km of the water corridor D-O-E at Lobau by Vienna. Now it is separated by antiflood dyke.

  8. First km of the water corridor D-O-E at Lobau by Vienna now.

  9. First km of the water corridor D-O-E at Děvín by Bratislava.Confluence Morava and Danube.

  10. First km of the water corridor D-O-E in Poland.Port of Kozle and Gliwice channel.

  11. Connection of the Gliwice channel to the branch D-O in Poland.

  12. Environmental aspects of the D-O-E Connection • Example: new trajectory of the corridor in the Oder protected landscape area; newly designed shallow water zones;

  13. Importances of water corridor D-O-E • Protection against flood • Water retention in landscape • Improvement of water balance • Stabilization of ecosystem • Transeuropian waterway • Ecological transport • Source and regulator of electric energy • Economy • Increasing employment • Source of income from tourism • Agriculture • Sport a recreation • Development of seats • Europian investment

  14. Critical nodal point by the Hodonín. During dry periods the whole discharge is led through a branch canal to the steam power plant. Rest of the water is used for irrigation and water power plant stops working at all.

  15. Costs of the Project • The whole water corridor D-O-E Danube-Kozle-Pardubice … cca 510 km 8 880 600 000 € public funds of the countries on the waterway European Union funds bank loans bonds direct implementation of project

  16. Revenues Even at extremely pessimistic assumptions, the value of IRR exceeds 10 %, i.e. higher than the level of 6 % that is deemed to be an admissible minimum at infrastructure investments. At optimistic assumptions it ranges around 20 %. It is therefore possible to say, without any overstatement, that a similar favourable effectiveness is demonstrated at few investments in the area of infrastructure. 8 years after putting the first stage into operation, the value of the balance startsto be positive and after next 5 years all of the costs spent until then will have been paid back. Here, it is really possible to talk about effectiveness indicators attained only ina very few infrastructure projects.

  17. Water corridor D-O-E in present time Traffic load in western part of the Europe reach the critical values and has bad influence to transport capacity and environment. Czech Republic is situated in the centre of the Europe, on the commodity flow between N-W industrial producing centre and S-E consumption centre including India and China. Economical potencial is moving from Western Europe to Middle and Eastern Europe. This development would be faster than constructing of higher transport capacity in new EU members. Water corridor Danube-Oder-Elbe is high-quality offer how to improve european transport corridors with using combine transport and other benefits. Special governmental commission revaluated land protection of the corridor D-O-E in urban plans with positive result! Intergovernmental consultations are in progress in this time.
