  1. Summary of the Physics Analysis Activities @ IFIC Rabat, 2nd June 2009 José SALT Presential Meeting of the 2007MA0059 (Bilateral Agreement)

  2. ANALYSIS GROUPS • Top Physics-Top reconstruction: • Susana Cabrera, M. Teresa Pérez • Top Physics- Top Mass measurement: • C. Escobar, S. Martí, M. J. Costa, M. Moreno, R. Moles, V. Lacuesta • Exotics • S.González de la Hoz, E.Oliver, E. Ros, J. Salt, M. Villaplana, M. Vos • SUSY • C. García, V. Mitsou, E. Torró

  3. Since December 2008, we have monthly meetings called ‘Valencia aTOPe’ • Format :presentations + discussions • To share experiences in analysis related to the top events/physics (which is the common • To have a forum to discuss about the tools and procedures for using the GRID /Tier-3 @IFIC (to have access to the datasets needed by physicists). • ‘ATLAS Top Quark Physics Wokshop’ • 22-24 April 2009 • Analysis groups of Portugal, Spain and Morocco • http://indico.ific.uv.es/indico/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=178 • Follow-up of the Exotics Analysis group every 2/3 weeks

  4. ‘ATLAS Top Quark Physics Wokshop’

  5. Group: SUSY

  6. Group: Exotics • Team: Eduardo Ros (convener), Marcel Vos, Santiago Gonzalez, Marcel Vos, Miguel Villaplana, Elena Oliver, Jose Salt • Top Quark Physics beyond the Standard Model: exotic scenarios with Top Quark resonances and high pt top quarks • Little Higgs Analysis (Elena Oliver) • Twin Higgs from Left-Right Symmetry; study of channel WH-> tb (Miguel Villaplana)

  7. Searches for BSM physics using bottom and top S. Gonzalez de la Hoz, E. Oliver, E. Ros, J. Salt, M. Villaplana, M. Vos Searches for signals at the LHC of beyond-the-Standard-Model physics with highly boosted b-jets and top quarks. We have investigated the potential of these signatures to discover several models (little Higgs, twin Higgs, Extra Dimensions) arXiv:0802.3715, ATL-PHYS-SLIDE-2009-057, ATL-SLIDE-2008-163, ATL-PHYS-PUB-2008-004 Early ATLAS physics: the KK gluon in the RS model of warped (universal) extra dimensions Randall, Lillie and Wang, The Bulk RS KK-gluon at the LHC, JHEP 0709:074 (2007) No coupling to leptons invisible in e+e-, m+m- resonance searches! Stongly coupled to quarks: large cross-section: 15 pb for m(g*KK) = 1 TeV @ 10 TeV but, by the same token: not a narrow resonance! Basic RS model: G = 0.17 M Large branching fraction into tt Basic RS scenario: 92.6 % Marcel.Vos@ific.uv.es

  8. Searches for BSM physics using bottom and top Reconstruction/identification IFIC has a long track-record in the reconstruction and identification of highly energetic b-jets (see CERN-OPEN-2008-020/High pT b-tagging) The top quark will be for the LHC what the b-quark was at LEP. Identification of highly boosted top quarks is going to be crucial top mono-jet tagging, based on a mixture of life-time and jet substructure signatures, ATL-PHYS-CONF-2008-016 W b b b b t t t Low pT W b b b b t Marcel.Vos@ific.uv.es

  9. Searches for BSM physics using bottom and top This work involves the thesis of M. Villaplana and E. Oliver E. Ros has coordinated the ATLAS exotic physics group since 2007 M. Vos has coordinated the high pT b- and top group M. Vos is editor of the tt-resonance paper to be written by a joint effort of the exotics and top physics groups. From July 2009 M. Vos will be coordinator of the Exotics/Jet+X subgroup that is responsible for new physics searches using hadronic signatures Marcel.Vos@ific.uv.es

  10. Group: TopPhysics/Top Mass

  11. Group: TopPhysics/Susana

  12. q/g q-bar/g q/g q-bar/g • Set up of reconstruction algorithms and Tau lepton identification in ATLAS: • Reconstruction and Identification of Hadronic Decays with ATLASATL-COM-PHYS-2008-068 • Identification of hadronic tau decays with ATLAS detector ATL-PHYS-INT-2008-003; • Expected Performance of the ATLAS Experiment - Detector, Trigger and Physics. arXiv:0901.0512 ttW(e/μ+ e/μ )bW(had +  ) • Set-up of reconstruction algorithms of ttbar events in ATLAS to perform the measurments of the W boson polarization in the decay of the top quark tW(e/µ+  e/μ)b • Graduate thesis of R.Vives Torrescasana. ttW(e/μ+ e/μ )bW(qq´)
