  4. Classroom Guidelinesto help prevent confusion

  5. Guideline #1Go to your assigned seat and start working on the assigned "Do Now" activity as soon as you enter the classroom.

  6. Guideline #2Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave.

  7. Guideline #3Follow directions the first time they are given.

  8. Guideline #4Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.

  9. Guideline #5Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the HMS student handbooks.

  10. Special GuidelineThis classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. • Everything that we do is in your best interest, so please…respect the “No Whining Zone” this year.

  11. Following Guidelines will result in: •Verbal Acknowledgement •A Stress free learning environment •A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere

  12. Not Following Guidelines will result in: 1 - Warning and documentation 2- Action Plan, Parental Contact, and any discipline determined by the classroom teacher including detention

  13. Severe Clause•Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will earn a detention.

  14. Classroom ProceduresExplain, Rehearse, Reinforce!

  15. Entering the room 1. Please enter quietly 2. Have a seat 3. Take out your Materials 4. Review the agenda 5. Start “Do Now” activity

  16. When you are tardy 1. Enter quietly if door is open 2. Excused: Place excuse in the basket near the door. 3. Unexcused: You will be referred to guidance and the office. 4. Find your seat and take out your materials

  17. Getting your attention When we want your attention we will stand in front of the class and raise our hand. All students will then quiet down and wait for further instructions.

  18. Using the Bathroom In order to use the bathroom, students need to first ask permission. Students then need to fill out the sign out sheet. ONLY ONE OUT AT A TIME!

  19. Finish classwork early? “What do I do next?”

  20. “What do I do next?”Activities * Work on ANY unfinished math work * Get a head start on tonight’s homework * Read a book silently *Work on any outstanding project or long term assignment

  21. Classroom discussions *PLEASE participate * I want to hear what you have to say * Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion * If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

  22. Classroom Dismissal *The teacher and the teacher ALONE dismisses you, no one else *Do not start packing up until the teacher says it is ok *Stay in your seats until the teacher officially dismisses you with: “Have a nice day.”

  23. Substitute Teacher Procedure It is not easy to be a substitute teacher and therefore, we feel that the students should behave more when the teacher is not there. If a student misbehaves for a substitute, that student will automatically receive a detention from the teacher and serve that detention the following day afterschool.
