Exasperated p. 187—Michael became exasperated when his computer froze in the middle of a game. Devised p. 187—The chess player devised a plan to beat her opponent.

    5. Building Background Let’s talk about…..baby food Texture, color, flavors Store bought vs. homemade Compare baby food business to other businesses we have discussed. Similarities? Differences?

    6. Building Background Continued Brand names for products we use today are sometimes the names of the actual people who created them. Examples? Before 1928, prepared baby food that could be bought cheaply from the stores was not common. Instead, parents would strain fruits and vegetables by hand to make them easier for their babies to digest. The straining process was inconvenient. Why?

    7. Preview and Prepare Genre? Clues in the story? Who are the Gerbers? What problems did the Gerbers face? Slogan? Graphics? Illustrator’s touches?
