  2. Xeriscaping Plants to Consider Some xeriscaping plants • Agave • Good for making Tequila not good for your lawn • Cactus • Lavender • Juniper • Sedum • Thyme

  3. Is this what kids what to pay on?

  4. What about Succulent Plants? • Shading trees help save energy • Provide cooler valley temperatures through evapotranspiration • Root systems prevent erosion and keeps dust and particulate down • Fight inversion and provide more oxygen • Creates firewood for local energy

  5. Effects on Local Economy • Growing food takes water • Are we willing to loose the farmers market and our personal gardens?

  6. Salt Lake City’s Environment • Despite the fact that the Salt Lake City is arid, the valley receives abundant water from the local mountain ranges. • Agricultural land is fed by secondary water sources.

  7. Some Alternatives • Change sprinkle systems to help reduce water • Put in place water preserving practices • Salt Lake City’s population is estimated to grow by 25% by 2050. If we put in place the proper water conservation techniques, the amount of water used in 2005 will be enough to meet Salt Lake City’s water demand in 2050.
