  1. Pond Ecology Vocabulary list! By Sophia Sjogren

  2. Ecology • Ecology is the study of how living things interact with one another just like how bees interact with flowers in their enviorment.

  3. Pond Ecology • Pond ecology is the study of how living things interact with one another in a pond, like how the fish and the frogs interact with one another. ( It is just like ecology only in the enviorment of a pond!)

  4. Ecosystem • An ecosystem is how living and non-living things in an area interact with one another, just like how oxygen interacts with a tree even though a tree is living and oxygen is not, they both need each other to live.

  5. Organism • An Organism is all living things, including plants and animals. So an organism can be any living thing anywhere! Even flowers are organisms!

  6. Habitat • A habitat is the natural enviorment of an organism, where you could find animals or plants normally. For example a habitat for a sloth might be in the rain forest, but you might find a bunny in your front yard.

  7. Limiting Factor • Something in the enviorment that keeps the population from getting as big as it could in a given enviorment. Like maybe lack of oxygen in a pond might limit the amount of fish in that pond.

  8. Carrying Capacity • The maximum number of organisms in an enviorment that can be supported in a given enviorment like how on a hot tub you might find a sticker that says it can only hold so many people.

  9. THE END • The end has come, but don’t be sad because now you know the meanings of all these fabulous words! • BYE!
