  1. Mounting a 3M Speedglas Welding Shield onto a FibreMetal Model 5000 Speedy Mounting Loop

  2. This is a picture of a 3M Speedglas welding shield, with its normal suspension still mounted to it. Remove the suspension by unscrewing the thumb nuts, and pulling apart the pieces used at the point of rotation. NOTE! For reference, the circled thumb nut indicates the RIGHT side of the welding shield. These instructions will first lead you through assembly on the RIGHT side, then continue with instructions for the LEFT side. Thumb Nut

  3. This picture shows the disassembled pieces. All of these pieces will be used to mount the welding shield to the Speedy Loop. Thumb nuts Spring Washers Shoulder Screws Friction Washer S Stop

  4. 1 First, assemble the RIGHT side of the Speedy Loop and Welding Helmet Insert a Shoulder Screw into the hole in the Speedy Loop. 2

  5. Fan of S Stop Locking tabs While holding the Shoulder Screw in place from the inside of the Loop, place the S Stop over the threaded part of the should screw that is extending out through the Speedy Loop. Note that the fan area of the S Stop is positioned UP, while the locking tabs of the Speedy Loop point down. Note that the fan leans towards the FRONT of the Speedy Loop.

  6. While holding the Shoulder Screw and S Stop in place on the Speedy Loop, insert the threaded part of the Shoulder Screw through the square hole that is the pivot point on the welding shield. Note that the screw is insert from the inside, so that the threaded part of the screw extends to the exterior of the shield.

  7. Place a Spring Washer over the threaded part of the Shoulder Screw that is extending through the welding shield.

  8. Screw a Thumb Nut onto the threaded part of the Shoulder Screw, to hold the assembly together.

  9. Now, assemble the LEFT side of the Speedy Loop and Welding Helmet Insert the second Shoulder Screw through the Speedy Loop.

  10. Assemble a Friction Washer over the threaded part of the Shoulder Screw that extends through the Speedy Loop.

  11. While holding the Shoulder Screw, Speedy Loop and Friction Washer together, insert the threaded part of the Shoulder Screw through the welding shield. The squared shoulder of the shoulder screw should fit into the square hole on the side of the welding shield.

  12. Assemble a Spring Washer and Thumb Nut onto the threaded part of the Shoulder Screw that is extending through the welding shield.

  13. This is a picture of the Speedy Loop assembled to a 3M Speedglas welding shield.
